About the Department

The purpose of this position is to educate, inform, and empower all Henry County residents on voter registration and election related subjects including equipment demonstrations and filling out registration and absentee ballots.  

Position Duties

  • Administer a multifaceted and innovative countywide voter education outreach program for people of diverse backgrounds to encourage voter participation and inform the public of voter registration procedures, the voting process, and voting system.
  • Strengthen the department’s relationship with community partners in various sectors through attendance at community events and meetings, group presentations, and one-on-one meetings.
  • Develop and execute outreach campaigns on social media, radio, television, newspaper, and other traditional media.
  • Collaborate and coordinate voter registration events.
  • Recruit new election workers when appropriate.
  • Plan, manage, and track all poll worker data
  • Collect community feedback and analyze voting data to shape voter education strategies.
  • Manage the social media accounts and the voter education sections of the website.
  • Create print and web-based education materials for events and the website.
  • Assist the Director with internal and external communications.
  • Train citizens who want to volunteer by hosting voter registration drives through the Deputy Registrar Program
  • Collaborate with non-profit organizations and other government offices
  • Act as deputy registrar conducting voter registration drives and assisting voters with completing absentee ballot applications. Register voters at events, and assist with filling out application, and application review for completeness and accuracy. Provide pertinent information on voter registration, upcoming elections, and applicable laws.
  • Prepare tools to measure performance of public meetings and events, including participant feedback and partnering with community leaders, civic organizations, churches, schools and colleges. 
  • Design and maintain databases to enter comments and raters from voter surveys. Provide monthly statistical data.
  • Organize and direct public meetings and voter education and outreach efforts. Determine appropriate information to present to community groups.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications

Education and Experience:

Requires a bachelor’s degree and two (2) years of professional experience, or equivalent combination of education and experience.


Licenses or Certifications:

GEOC and MEOC certificates preferred, or able to obtain within 6 months.


Special Requirements: 

Must be available for occasional weekend and evening work. Schedule will adjust based upon the needs of the department.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities: 

  • Knowledge of local government operations, elections related programs, policies and plans, and modern office practices and procedures.
  • Knowledge of Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and other similar programs.
  • Skill in the use of computers and software applications related to the essential functions of the job. 
  • Skill in effective communication, both verbally and in writing. 
  • Ability to meet and deal with employees and the public in an effective and courteous manner.
  • Ability to get along with others, and work effectively with the public and co-workers.
  • Ability to work flexible hours, including evening meetings.
  • Ability to multi-task and work within deadlines.
  • Ability to deal with confidential and sensitive matters.
  • Ability to use computers for data entry, word processing, and accounting purposes. 
  • Ability to operate a copying machine. 
  • Ability to review, classify, categorize, prioritize, and/or analyze data.
  • Ability to exercise judgment, decisiveness, and creativity in situations involving the evaluation of information against measurable or verifiable criteria.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS

The work is sedentary work which requires exerting up to 20 pounds of force occasionally and/or negligible amount of force frequently or constantly to lift, carry, push, pull or otherwise move objects, including the human body. Requires mental acuity including the ability to make rational decisions through sound logic and deductive processes, the ability to express ideas by means of the spoken word and have close visual acuity.
