Role Description
The Fleet Operations Analyst / Vehicle Maintenance Controller / Transport Assets Manager supports the efficient, reliable, and cost-effective management of vehicles and transport equipment. These positions help organisations maintain asset availability, coordinate maintenance, and make informed decisions about fleet utilisation, operating costs, and replacement requirements.
The position works closely with Transport Operations, drivers, maintenance teams, workshops, Procurement, Finance, Safety, and external service providers. Responsibilities include reviewing fleet data, tracking vehicle availability, coordinating servicing and repairs, and maintaining accurate asset records. The role investigates recurring breakdowns, monitors costs and downtime, and communicates issues that could affect transport schedules or operational capacity.
For Fleet Operations Analysts, the emphasis is on utilisation, fuel consumption, route performance, downtime, and operating-cost analysis. Vehicle Maintenance Controllers schedule preventive maintenance, coordinate repair approvals, monitor workshop progress, and verify completion records. Transport Assets Managers oversee fleet lifecycle plans, budgets, procurement, replacement, and disposal decisions. Across these positions, the role balances service requirements with asset condition, maintenance needs, safety, and long-term financial value.
Qualifications
- Diploma or bachelor’s degree in Logistics, Transportation, Automotive Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Asset Management, Business, or a related field.
- Experience in fleet operations, vehicle maintenance coordination, transport asset management, or a relevant operational role.
- Understanding of vehicle utilisation, availability, maintenance planning, downtime, and fleet operating costs.
- For Fleet Operations Analyst positions, experience analysing fleet performance, fuel usage, telematics data, and operational trends.
- Proficiency in Excel and reporting tools, with the ability to validate data and investigate unusual performance patterns.
- Ability to develop measures and recommendations that improve capacity use, cost efficiency, and service reliability.
- For Vehicle Maintenance Controller positions, experience scheduling servicing, coordinating repairs, and monitoring workshop activities.
- Practical understanding of preventive maintenance, defect reporting, repair estimates, warranties, and service documentation.
- Ability to prioritise maintenance requirements and coordinate vehicle downtime with transport schedules.
- For Transport Assets Manager positions, experience developing fleet budgets, acquisition plans, replacement strategies, and disposal arrangements.
- Understanding of total cost of ownership, depreciation, leasing, asset condition, and lifecycle investment decisions.
- Experience managing workshop, leasing, equipment, or maintenance-provider relationships and reviewing service performance.
- Familiarity with fleet-management systems, maintenance platforms, asset registers, and telematics tools.
- Awareness of vehicle inspection, roadworthiness, insurance, safety, and recordkeeping requirements relevant to the fleet.
- Excellent analytical, communication, organisational, and problem-solving skills, with attention to detail and sound operational judgement.
