What makes the role meaty?
1. Strategic Sourcing & Demand Alignment
- Design and execute sourcing strategies aligned to business demand cycles, seasonality, and volatility of fish & seafood.
- Translate demand forecasts into structured sourcing plans, moving beyond spot buying to predictable, scalable models.
- Build sourcing playbooks that balance availability, cost, and quality across cycles.
2. Modernizing Traditional Procurement
- Challenge and improve legacy buying practices prevalent in the fish and seafood ecosystem.
- Introduce data-led procurement, contracting frameworks, and performance tracking.
- Build alternate sourcing models (contracts, clusters, aggregation, imports) to reduce volatility and dependency.
3. Cost, Margin & Commercial Ownership
- Own buying prices, inflation management, and cost normalization across species.
- Drive negotiations and commercial structures that protect margins while ensuring partner sustainability.
- Work closely with Finance on budgets, forecasts, and variance explanations.
4. Vendor Ecosystem & Capability Building
- Build a diversified ecosystem of farms, fishermen groups, processors, exporters, and aggregators.
- Develop vendors to meet Licious’ standards on quality, consistency, traceability, and compliance.
- Reduce concentration risk and improve vendor reliability through long-term partnerships.
5. Quality, Compliance & Consumer Trust
- Partner with Quality teams to uphold stringent food safety, freshness, and shelf-life standards.
- Ensure sourcing decisions protect consumer experience and brand trust, not just cost.
- Drive initiatives that improve yield, shelf life, and cold-chain integrity.
6. Cross-Functional Leadership
- Work closely with Category, Retail Stores, Demand Planning, Operations, Quality, and Supply Chain teams.
- Enable category teams with sourcing options and substitution strategies during supply disruptions.
- Act as the sourcing voice in leadership discussions.
7. Team Leadership
- Lead and develop regional sourcing teams.
- Build a culture of accountability, ownership, and continuous improvement.
- Attract and groom talent capable of operating in complex, high-volatility environments.
We hope that you have...
- 12–18+ years in procurement / sourcing leadership roles
- Experience may come from meat, seafood, agri, FMCG, dairy, QSR supply chains, or commodities
- Demonstrated success in transforming traditional procurement environments
- Prior exposure to fish & seafood sourcing is preferred but not mandatory if category understanding is strong
Mindset & Capabilities (Critical)
- Deep understanding of how procurement functions work end-to-end
- Strong curiosity and passion for the fish & seafood category
- Proven ability to challenge status quo buying practices
- Ability to design solutions that fit business demand cycles, not just supply availability
- Strong commercial acumen and negotiation skills
- Calm, structured, and data-driven decision-maker
