Our equipment is getting smarter. The next generation of our platforms integrates vision AI, real-time sensing, and adaptive control into the machines we build. The software layer is no longer a supporting function — it is how our products differentiate.
We are looking for a Head of Software Platforms to build and own that layer. You will define the software architecture across our control, vision, and applied AI platforms, hire and lead a team of software and controls engineers, and ensure delivery keeps pace with hardware and process development.
This is a hands-on leadership role. You will make architectural decisions, review code, and stay close to the engineering — while building the practices and team that allow TEAL's software capability to scale.
What You Will Own
- Software architecture across machine control, vision AI, and applied AI platforms — modular, testable, built to evolve- you will be creating and shaping product platforms.
- Real-time machine control software: motion control, HMI, data acquisition, process control, diagnostics · Integration with industrial protocols: EtherCAT, OPC-UA, Profinet, and sensor/actuator interfaces · Vision AI inference pipeline and camera integration layer (working alongside AI/ML Research Lead who owns model architecture)
- Robotics and vision integration in high tech manufacturing applications
- AI deployment infrastructure: TensorRT, ONNX, model versioning, edge inference for <50ms production targets - we are early stage, so you get to shape use cases around physical AI implementation.
- Software engineering culture: Git, CI/CD, code review, structured testing for control software and AI pipelines · Delivery commitments across concurrent programmes — schedule, quality, and customer commissioning readiness
- Hiring and developing a team to a scalable organisation
What We Are Looking For
- 12+ years in software development; 5+ years in a leadership or technical lead role
- Hands-on experience building software with hardware integration — motion control, machine vision, PC-based controls OR hands on experience of building platforms for hardware applications in relevant industry segements.
- Track record of building software teams and engineering practices from early stages, not just inheriting them
- Proficiency in C#, Python, C++. Familiarity with PC-based automation frameworks or PLC mechanisms such as with TwinCAT, Beckhoff, or equivalent.
- Familiarity with AI/ML deployment: TensorRT, ONNX Runtime, edge inference optimisation. You don't train models — you own the pipeline that deploys them · Understanding of software safety standards (IEC 62061, ISO 13849) in a machine context
- Exposure to electronics, semiconductor, battery, or manufacturing is a plus. Adjacent high-precision industries welcome
