About the Role
We are looking for a hands-on Retail Operations & Automation leader to build and professionalize the operating system of a high-growth MegaMart combining wholesale + retail fresh-produce operations.
This is not a conventional Retail Operations role. The mandate is to build systems, processes and controls from the ground up and progressively reduce day-to-day Founder dependency.
The successful candidate will have the opportunity to grow into a COO role based on measurable business outcomes.
What You Will Own
- Build the complete retail operating model across people, processes and technology.
- Design and implement SOPs, workflows, checklists, KPIs and approval structures.
- Build manpower structure, shifts, responsibilities and escalation hierarchy.
- Implement / optimize ERP, POS, WMS and operational dashboards.
- Establish strong controls around procurement, receiving, inventory, wastage, shrinkage and cash.
- Build FIFO/FEFO, ageing and shelf-life controls for fresh/perishable products.
- Identify repetitive processes and drive automation and exception-based management.
- Improve productivity, reduce operating costs and eliminate operational leakage.
- Build a management dashboard so the Founder sees exceptions and decisions—not routine operational problems.
- Train managers and teams and ensure SOP/system adoption.
- Create an operating model that can eventually be replicated across multiple locations.
Ideal Candidate
We are looking for someone who has personally built or transformed operations, not just managed an existing team.
Must have:
- 10–18+ years of relevant operations experience.
- Retail / grocery / supermarket / wholesale / FMCG / Q-commerce exposure.
- Strong experience in P&L, inventory, procurement and workforce management.
- Proven experience implementing ERP/POS/WMS or automation initiatives.
- Strong SOP/process-design capability.
- Experience reducing wastage, shrinkage, costs or operational leakage.
- Highly hands-on, data-driven and execution-oriented.
- Comfortable working directly with a Founder/MD.
Strong preference for candidates from:
DMart, Reliance Retail, Metro Cash & Carry, Walmart, BigBasket, More Retail, Spencer’s, Star Bazaar, large-format retail, FMCG distribution or similar businesses.
