About the Role
We are looking for an experienced Head of Procurement to lead the end-to-end procurement function for a well-established manufacturing company in the refractory and industrial materials sector.
This is a strategic leadership role responsible for developing procurement strategies, managing vendor relationships, negotiating high-value contracts, and ensuring timely procurement of materials, equipment, and services required for EPC and manufacturing operations.
The ideal candidate should have extensive experience in procurement of mechanical equipment, piping materials, structural steel, electrical and instrumentation items, cables, bulk materials, and subcontracted services.
Candidates with prior experience in EPC companies will be strongly preferred.
Key Responsibilities
Strategic Procurement Management
- Develop and implement procurement strategies aligned with business and project objectives.
- Lead procurement planning for EPC projects across mechanical, electrical, instrumentation, civil, and structural packages.
- Establish annual procurement budgets and cost-saving initiatives.
- Ensure cost-effective purchasing while maintaining quality and delivery standards.
Vendor & Supply Chain Management
- Identify, evaluate, and onboard domestic and international vendors.
- Conduct vendor prequalification, audits, and performance evaluations.
- Build long-term strategic relationships with OEMs, fabricators, and subcontractors.
- Maintain and update the Approved Vendor List (AVL).
Tendering & Contract Management
- Manage RFQs, techno-commercial evaluations, bid analysis, and purchase order finalization.
- Negotiate pricing, payment terms, delivery schedules, LD clauses, warranties, and contracts.
- Finalize high-value procurement contracts and subcontract agreements.
- Ensure contractual compliance and risk mitigation.
Project Procurement Coordination
- Coordinate with engineering and project teams on material specifications and procurement schedules.
- Monitor procurement progress against project timelines.
- Ensure timely delivery of long-lead and critical items.
- Resolve supply chain bottlenecks impacting project execution.
Cost Optimization & Commercial Control
- Drive value engineering and cost reduction initiatives.
- Analyze market trends, commodity pricing, and sourcing opportunities.
- Optimize inventory and logistics costs.
- Ensure procurement remains within approved budgets.
Must Have Requirements
Procurement Expertise
- 15+ years of experience in procurement and supply chain management.
- Strong experience in end-to-end procurement of industrial and EPC materials.
- Proven track record in strategic sourcing and contract negotiations.
- Experience handling high-value and technically complex purchases.
Industry Experience
- Prior experience in EPC companies is mandatory.
- Exposure to manufacturing, industrial, engineering, metals, chemicals, or refractory sectors preferred.
Technical Knowledge
- Strong understanding of procurement for:
- Mechanical equipment
- Piping materials
- Structural steel
- Electrical and instrumentation items
- Cables and bulk materials
- Subcontracts and services
Vendor Management
- Extensive experience in vendor development, evaluation, and relationship management.
- Strong negotiation and commercial acumen.
Stakeholder Management
- Ability to work closely with engineering, projects, finance, and senior leadership teams.
Communication
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
- Strong leadership and decision-making abilities.
Educational Qualification
- B.Tech in Mechanical Engineering.
Nice to Have
- Experience with ERP systems such as SAP, Oracle, or similar.
- Exposure to international sourcing and import procurement.
- Strong understanding of logistics and inventory optimization.
