Job Description: Head of Operations (Payment NBFC - PPI)

Role Summary
The Head of Operations will be responsible for leading, designing, and executing all operational processes for the PPI business, including wallet issuance, prepaid card management, and transaction processing. This role requires a strong regulatory-first mindset to ensure compliance with RBI guidelines while driving efficiency in merchant onboarding, customer service, and reconciliation. Key Responsibilities
- PPI Product Operations Management: Oversee the end-to-end lifecycle of prepaid instruments (issuance, loading, usage, expiry, recharge) for open-loop, semi-closed, and closed-loop instruments.
- Regulatory & Compliance Oversight: Ensure strict adherence to RBI guidelines (KYC/AML), PCI-DSS standards, and PMLA norms. Proactively manage regulatory reporting and audit readiness.
- Transaction Processing & Reconciliation: Ensure seamless authorization, clearing, and settlement of transactions. Oversee daily reconciliation between internal ledgers, bank partners, and card networks (VISA/MasterCard/Rupay).
- Merchant Onboarding & Activation: Lead the end-to-end merchant onboarding process to ensure compliance, security, and quick Turnaround Time (TAT) for activation.
- Process Improvement & Automation: Implement technology solutions, API integrations, and automation tools to streamline workflows, reduce TAT, and improve scalability.
- Fraud and Risk Mitigation: Implement robust transaction monitoring systems to detect fraud and manage risk associated with wallet usage and chargebacks.
- Vendor & Partner Management: Manage relationships with bank partners, BIN sponsors, and technology vendors to ensure high uptime and service quality.
- Team Leadership: Build and mentor the operations team, including KYC, dispute resolution, and customer support.
Required Qualifications & Skills
- Education: MBA/PGDM in Operations, Finance, or Technology Management.
- Experience: 15+ years of total experience in BFSI, with at least 8 years in digital payments (Wallet/PPI/Cards).
- Regulatory Knowledge: Deep understanding of RBI Payment System Operators (PSO) regulations.
- Technical Familiarity: Hands-on experience with API integrations, backend systems, reconciliation tools, and banking platforms.
