Your role in the team
The team is leading and building the IG's APAC and ME Technology applications. We realize this mission by developing high performant, low latency systems where reliability and accuracy are paramount for delivering high-quality software within IG's most complex business domain.
The Mission
You will lead the
IG Trading technology across APAC and Middle East regions. Your mission: build the technical foundation that enables product teams to ship fast, scale reliably, and innovate boldly.

What You’ll Do
- Deliver Technical Roadmap (20% focus)
Responsibilities:
- Work with engineering leads to translate roadmap into technical implementation
- Ensure product ships with high quality (reliability, performance, scalability)
- Make technical tradeoff decisions (build vs. buy, technical debt vs. new features)
- Collaborate with Chief Architect on platform needs (APIs, SDKs, infrastructure)
- Conduct code reviews and technical governance (you're technical, not just a PM)
- Drive cloud-first architecture (AWS/GCP, serverless, containerization)
- Drive AI-first capabilities (explore AI/ML features, own AI product strategy)
- Ensure regional compliance (ASIC, DFSA, MAS, FSA as applicable)
- Lead Product Team (20% focus)
Responsibilities:
- Develop 25-30 engineers (depending on product maturity)
- Set technical standards and culture (code quality, testing, pair programming)
- Conduct 1:1s, mentoring, and career development
- Delegate effectively and build team ownership
- Resolve conflicts and make tough calls on people
- Build cross-functional collaboration (with design, compliance, operations)
- Create psychological safety (teams should feel comfortable taking calculated risks)
- Own Regional Execution (20% focus)
Responsibilities:
- Understand regional market dynamics (APAC vs. Middle East)
- Work with regional stakeholders on product launch strategy
- Ensure regional regulatory compliance (ASIC, DFSA, MAS)
- Build relationships with local customers and partners
- Adapt product for regional needs (localization, feature priority)
- Report on regional metrics (adoption, revenue, customer feedback)
- Drive Innovation (15% focus)
Responsibilities:
- Define innovation strategy aligned with business priorities (e.g., AI for trading, generative features, MCP Servers)
- Build 2-4 MVPs per quarter demonstrating new capabilities
- Mentor senior engineers and foster technical curiosity
- Evaluate new technologies and assess adoption potential
- Connect innovation work to product roadmaps (make innovation relevant, not just interesting)
- Set Engineering Standards (10% focus)
Responsibilities:
- Chair the Architecture Review Board (weekly, all tech heads attend)
- Define and enforce cross-product engineering standards (APIs, SDKs, code patterns)
- Drive tech debt remediation and refactoring strategies – 100% CICD, 100% test coverage, 0 vulnerabilities and 0 secrets in code.
- Conduct code reviews across all products (establish quality bar)
- Build consistent practices across 4 products (reduce duplication, increase reuse)
- Ensure Delivery & Reliability (10% focus)
Responsibilities:
- Lead Delivery & Reliability team overseeing release coordination and SRE
- Establish incident response procedures and SLA management
- Drive continuous improvement in deployment frequency and reliability
- Participate in major incidents (post-mortems, root cause analysis)
- Coordinate multi-product releases (ensure no dependencies are missed)
- Strategic Leadership (5% focus)
Responsibilities:
- Report directly to Head of Technology APACME on platform strategy and performance
- Align platform investments with product head priorities
- Communicate platform capabilities and roadmap to all 4 product heads
- Participate in technology strategy discussions (what tech bets to make)
- Represent platform/infrastructure perspective in executive decisions
Required Experience
What you’ll need for this role
Technical Foundation (Non-Negotiable)
- 15+ years of software engineering experience
- 5+ years as Head of Tech, Executive Director, or Chief Engineer
- Deep full-stack expertise: frontend, backend, cloud, databases, APIs
- Strong understanding of high-scale, low-latency systems (fintech preferred)
- Proven ability to build and ship products (not just lead, but contribute)
- Hands-on experience with: JavaScript/TypeScript, Python/Java, SQL/NoSQL, cloud platforms (AWS/GCP)
- Understanding of modern architecture: microservices, APIs, cloud-native, containerization
- Experience with AI/ML (or strong interest in learning)
Leadership
- 5+ years managing and developing engineering teams (minimum 5-15 people)
- Proven ability to hire exceptional talent
- Experience mentoring senior engineers and developing leaders
- Track record of building high-performing teams
- Ability to set technical direction and have teams execute
