Job details:
Head of Editorial and Social Intelligence, AM:PM
You find TV loud. You read newspaper editorials for fun but you know the audience you're writing for has the attention span of a pushed notification. You're not mad about it, you're building for it. You've run editorial desks, managed sharp, fast, slightly unhinged young editors and somehow kept the output tight. You track news the way other people doomscroll, except yours is called "research" and it actually produces something.
Hacky-fast in execution. Allergic to coverage gaps. Probably has opinions about a story that hasn't broken yet.
About AM:PM
AM:PM is a VC-backed news platform built for short-form video, reels, and fast threads, for Gen Z and millennials who want to stay informed without sitting through a panel of five people agreeing with each other for 40 minutes. We go deep without going slow. We understand internet culture because we live in it, not because we read a report about it.
Why this role matters
At scale, content is not the problem. Judgment, coordination, and speed are. You are joining as a founding editorial leader, not a "strategic content stakeholder." The person who makes the whole thing actually work.
What you will own
1. Team management (10 editors)
2. Allocate beats and sub-categories
3. Track daily output across all editors
4. Ensure coverage targets are met every day
5. Intervene and cover immediately when output drops, not send a Slack message about it
6. Coverage integrity without bias (no gaps)
7. Ensure every sub-category is populated daily
8. Identify missing narratives and weak angles everyone else slept on
9. Maintain balance between mainstream and counter takes
10. Review scripts across formats
11. Remove bottlenecks across sourcing, verification, and writing before they become your midnight problem
12. Be the final owner of consistency in tone and positioning
Who you are
3 to 6 years in editorial, content, or newsroom environments, on an actual desk with actual deadlines
Has run or contributed to an editorial desk (not "part of a content team" on an org chart nobody looked at)
Deep understanding of social media trends and content behavior, as a practitioner, not a user
Strong team management under high-pressure environments without becoming the pressure
High ownership and execution speed. You do not need a meeting to decide if something is news.
Not more than 10 years of overall experience. We are not looking for someone who has seen it all. We are looking for someone who is still hungry.
This is a 0-to-1 journey. Some days will be a mess. You will be expected to find it interesting rather than exhausting. If that sounds like your kind of problem, drop your CV below or DM us.
