The Opportunity
Two schools. Two disciplines that are reshaping professional education in India. One mandate.
BITS Design School is building what does not yet exist in India, a design school of genuine global standing, rooted in Indian reality, connected to the world's leading institutions, and committed to producing designers who change the industries they enter.
BITS Law School is reimagining legal education for a generation that will practice law in a world transformed by technology, policy complexity, and global interconnection. Under BITS Pilani one of India's premier Institutions of Eminence it brings the same rigour and innovation that has defined BITS engineering to the study of law.
We are looking for the person who will tell both stories — and the larger story of what it means to build two of India's most forward-thinking professional schools simultaneously, on one campus, under one institution.
This is not a conventional marketing role. It is a brand building and positioning leadership role for someone who understands that institutional reputation is built through conviction, consistency, and the quality of what happens inside, not through campaigns alone.
You will shape how BITS Design School and BITS Law School are perceived by the students who will choose them, the industries that will partner with them, the international institutions that will collaborate with them, and the broader world that needs to know they exist.
If you have spent your career in conventional higher education marketing, this is probably not the right role. If you have built brands that stand for something and you believe India's professional education is ready for its moment, this is the right opportunity.
What You Will Do
Position both schools in the world
Develop and own the brand narratives that place BITS Design School and BITS Law School on the map in India and internationally. Each school has a distinct identity, a distinct audience, and a distinct story. You will build the strategy that tells both stories with clarity and conviction, while ensuring they reinforce each other as sister schools under BITS Pilani.
Your audiences span prospective students and their families, industry partners, international academic institutions, policy makers, the design and legal communities, and broader society. Each requires a different approach. You will build the architecture that reaches all of them.
Build the brand from the inside out
The strongest institutional brands are built on what the institution actually does not on what it says about itself. You will work closely with both Deans, faculty, and students to surface the stories, the research, the projects, and the people that make these schools distinctive.
Then you will find the right channels, voices, and formats to tell those stories at scale across media, social platforms, events, publications, and the international academic circuit.
Lead admissions marketing with intelligence, not volume
Drive integrated campaigns - digital, PR, content, events that attract the right students to both schools. For BITSDES: intrinsically motivated, design-curious, ambitious about impact. For BITSLAW: intellectually serious, socially aware, drawn to law's role in a changing world.
Quality of applicant matters more than volume of leads. You will define what right looks like for each school and build the funnel accordingly.
Own PR and thought leadership
Build visibility for both institutions and their leadership in the media, in policy conversations, in industry forums, and in the international academic community. This includes media relations, authored articles, conference presence, and strategic placement in the publications and platforms that reach our audiences.
Design the external experience of both schools
Every touchpoint a prospective student, industry partner, or international collaborator has with BITSDES or BITSLAW is a designed experience, from the website to the campus visit to the event. You will ensure those touchpoints are as considered and distinctive as the education delivered inside them.
Lead the team
Lead a lean, high-capability marketing and communications team serving both schools. Set the standard for creative quality and strategic thinking. Manage agencies and vendors with rigour. Balance the needs of two schools without losing the distinctiveness of either.
What We Are Looking For
- 18+ years of experience in brand, marketing, or communications, with significant leadership experience
- Track record of building or repositioning an institutional, professional, or purpose-driven brand
- Strong international orientation — you understand how Indian institutions need to position themselves globally
- Experience or genuine interest in design, legal, or professional education sectors
- Exceptional writing and communication skills — you can craft a narrative, not just execute a brief
- Experience managing agencies, budgets, and cross-functional stakeholders across multiple business units
- Comfort with ambiguity and the ability to build systems where they don't yet exist
- An MBA or Master's in a relevant field is useful.
