Role summary:
Lead the design and development organization for railway signalling products across the product lifecycle—from requirements and system architecture through hardware/software design, verification, validation, certification and product release. Own technical strategy, resource planning, cross-functional delivery, supplier engineering and continuous improvement to ensure safe, compliant, reliable and market-competitive signalling solutions.
Key responsibilities and Platform expertise required
· Lead Design, Development, Integration and lifecycle support for KAVACH-based ATP products / ETCS-based signalling products including loco ATP units, trackside information interfaces, RFID/tag-based inputs, braking interface logic, and compatibility with Indian Railways operational rules and RDSO specifications and RBC communication interfaces, train detection interfaces, and interworking with ATS/ATO where applicable.
· Own system architecture and requirements allocation for ETCS and TCAS platforms, covering movement authority handling, speed supervision, braking curve enforcement, mode transitions, degraded modes, and fail-safe response behavior.
· Drive compliance with railway RAMS and safety processes, including EN 50126, EN 50128/EN50716, EN 50129, EN50159 and related safety case preparation, verification evidence, and independent assessment support.
· Ensure platform-specific testing and validation through lab integration, HIL/SIL test environments, FAT/SAT, field trials, and interoperability testing with train, wayside, telecom, and interlocking interfaces.
· Coordinate certification, product release, and customer approvals with rail authorities, operators, and assessors for both European ETCS deployments and Indian TCAS/KAVACH deployments.
· Define technical vision and roadmap for signalling products (KAVACH/ ETCS , Interlocking, Axle Counters, Track circuits, Field Elements, Signalling Controllers, Communications, CBTC/ATO components as applicable).
· Lead system architecture, hardware, firmware/embedded software, electronics, mechanical, and test teams to deliver products that meet safety, reliability and regulatory requirements.
· Translate customer needs, standards and tender specifications into technical requirements and design baselines.
· Establish and own product development lifecycle processes: requirements management, systems engineering, design reviews (SR, PDR, CDR), configuration management, risk management (FMEA/FMEDA), and change control.
· Ensure functional safety and SIL compliance by directing safety analyses, safety cases and certification activities with notified bodies and rail authorities.
· Drive hardware and software architecture decisions, design trade-offs, component selection, and supplier evaluation for cost, quality and long-term supportability.
· Implement robust verification & validation strategies: lab testing, simulation, firmware validation, bench testing, FAT/SAT planning and field trials.
· Manage cross-functional coordination with sales, project management, manufacturing, supply chain, QA, and customer engineering to ensure timely delivery and successful deployment.
· Build, mentor and scale high-performing engineering teams; define roles, KPIs, competency development and hiring plans.
· Own product documentation, BOM control, design for manufacturability and maintainability, and post-deployment support strategy.
· Monitor industry trends, emerging technologies (e.g., IoT diagnostics, secure comms, AI-assisted diagnostics) and propose product improvements and platform evolution.
· Manage budgets for R&D, prototype builds and external test/certification; justify investments based on ROI and strategic fit.
· Represent the company in technical reviews, client presentations, standards committees and third-party audits.

· Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in electrical / Electronics / Computer Engineering or equivalent. Advanced degree preferred.
· Proven background in railway signalling or other safety-critical signalling/control domains.
Experience:
· 15+ years of engineering experience, with at least 5 years in a leadership role responsible for product design and development in railway signalling or equivalent safety-critical transportation systems.
· Hands-on experience with signalling subsystems (Kavach/ETCS, Interlocking, Field elements, Axle counters, Track circuits, point machines, level-crossing, CBTC/ATO components) and communications protocols used in railways.
· Demonstrated track record delivering full product lifecycle in regulated environments, managing certification and customer acceptance.
Technical skills:
· Systems engineering and architecture for safety-critical systems.
· Embedded systems (firmware/software) design and development, real-time OS, secure boot and OTA strategies.
· Electronic circuit design (analog/digital), PCB design principles, EMC/EMI mitigation.
· Hardware-software integration, diagnostics, maintainability features.
· Test and validation methodologies, lab automation, HIL (hardware-in-the-loop) or SIL tools.
· Configuration management and requirement-traceability tools (e.g., DOORS, Jira, Polariton).
· Familiarity with relevant standards: EN 50126/8/9/716, IEC 61508, IEC 62425, ISO 9001, ISO 27001 (if applicable).
