Role Purpose
Own the end-to-end global regulatory strategy and homologation execution for ICE and EV two-wheelers/mobility products. Ensure every product and variant meets current and emerging safety, emissions, EV/battery, connectivity/cybersecurity, recycling/EPR, and market-surveillance requirements across India and export markets—with zero compliance risk, predictable approvals, and proactive influence on future rules.
Key Accountabilities (Updated)
1) Global Regulatory Strategy & Foresight
- Build and maintain a 3–5 year rolling global regulatory roadmap for all priority markets (India, EU, US/Canada, LATAM, ASEAN, MEA, Japan/Korea etc.).
- Anticipate and translate upcoming rules into product, cost, and timeline impacts
- Own regulatory risk register and mitigation plans for each platform/program.
2) India Homologation & Compliance Leadership
- Lead CMVR/AIS certification and renewals for all India products (ICE & EV), including COP, variant extensions, and line-up change management through ARAI/ICAT/VRDE etc.
- Ensure compliance to CPCB emissions norms, OBD requirements, and noise norms.
- Drive EV compliance for battery safety & REESS
- Ensure readiness for India’s End-of-Life Vehicle EPR rules and battery circularity obligations.
- Track and implement BIS-notified EV safety standards applicable to L-category vehicles.
3) Export Market Homologation & Market Access
- Own type approval strategy and execution for all export markets, including local testing, documentation, CoC, and market surveillance readiness.
- Establish regional compliance playbooks (EU, US, ASEAN, LATAM, Africa) mapping tests, documentation, labeling, and COP needs.
- Manage technical services/authorities globally (e.g., EU VCA/UTAC/TÜV, US EPA/DOT/CARB, ASEAN agencies, etc.).
4) Regulatory Advocacy via SIAM & Global Forums
- Represent OEM in SIAM technical regulation committees, shaping India positions on safety/emissions/EV/cyber rules and aligning industry consensus. SIAM’s formal role includes technical interpretation of CMVR and recommendations to MoRTH on adopting international standards.
- Lead inputs to UN-ECE WP.29 / IMMA / ACEM or equivalent global bodies to protect business priorities and accelerate innovation-friendly regulations.
5) Connected Vehicle, Cybersecurity & Software Update Compliance
- Implement compliance frameworks for Cybersecurity Management System (CSMS) and Software Update Management System (SUMS) aligned to UN-ECE R155/R156 (now including motorcycles).
- Partner with EE/Software, After-Sales and Quality for OTA, diagnostic, and vulnerability response processes.
6) Digitization & Capability Building
- Build a single global regulatory intelligence + homologation workflow platform for all markets, integrating: regulation database, test planning, evidence, approvals, COP, and change tracking.
- Develop internal talent through structured regulatory certification and cross-market rotations.
Key Skills & Competencies
Domain / Technical
- Deep expertise in CMVR/AIS, MoRTH/AISC/CMVR-TSC processes, ARAI/ICAT/VRDE homologation.
- Strong knowledge of EU L-category approval (EU 168/2013), Euro-5/5+, OBD, noise, EMC.
- Working knowledge of UN-ECE WP.29 / GTRs, and cybersecurity/software update compliance (R155/R156).
- EV & battery safety standards (AIS-156, AIS-038 Rev.2, thermal propagation, swapping), and circularity/EPR.
Academic Qualification
- Engineering degree (Mechanical/Automotive/E&E). Master’s preferred
Experience
- 18+ years in automotive/2W regulatory, homologation, compliance or certification; 5–8 years leading multi-market team
