Summary
The Volunteer shall assist the Hays County Health Department in supporting community outreach, public health initiatives, and event coordination. Performs a variety of administrative and community-facing tasks, gradually increasing in level of responsibility as the Volunteer receives on-the-job training related to public health programs, behavioral health initiatives, and community engagement efforts.
Position Duties
- Assists with setup, coordination, and breakdown of community health events and outreach activities.
- Supports distribution of public health materials, resources, and information to community members.
- Assures services delivered meet quality, professionalism, and timeliness standards.
- Enters, organizes, and tracks outreach data and event participation information.
- Assists with organizing materials, supplies, and resource inventories.
- Documents and files materials related to outreach, events, and programming.
- Interacts daily with staff, community partners, and the public.
- Assists with behavioral health and public health projects as assigned.
- Performs a variety of duties related to community outreach strategies, health education, and program implementation while learning the mission, structure, and operations of the Health Department.
- Supports community engagement efforts including mental health awareness, prevention programming, and health promotion initiatives.
- Effectively utilizes standard office software (data management, spreadsheets, presentations, and word processing) in completing assigned projects.
- May assist with logistical or administrative tasks during peak event periods.
- Performs other duties as assigned.
- May attend community meetings, coalition meetings, or public health events as needed.
Minimum Qualifications
- Interest or experience in Public Health, Behavioral Health, Social Work, Psychology, or related field preferred.
- Experience with community service, outreach, or volunteer work is a plus.
- Experience with personal computers and basic software applications.
