About the role

We are looking for a Staff Engineer to join the Vault Cloud Unification team. You will help design, prototype, and implement critical functionality in order to deliver a scalable, highly reliable, and secure product. We operate autonomously in a highly collaborative, remote-first environment. Anchored by kindness, communication, and humility, we provide the Vault Community and Vault Enterprise customers the ability to solve mission-critical problems securely. With the support of your teammates, product management, manager, and developers across the organization you'll grow your breadth and depth of knowledge to reach the next level in your career. This person will be a part of the Vault engineering team at HashiCorp, working to provide a fantastic and broadly used secrets tool for businesses and individuals handling all sizes and types of infrastructure. The majority of the libraries we maintain are written in Golang and are open source or source-available, receiving contributions from a large community of users. You will help review, fix, design, prototype, and implement features and tools while ensuring stability and usability. You will lead large customer-facing projects and interact regularly with collaborators on other teams to deliver multi-team engineering efforts. What you'll do (responsibilities) Develop, advocate for, and support new and existing features in the entire Vault product line Own large customer-facing projects, judiciously evaluate trade offs and remove project blockers Spend time writing about customer problems, potential solutions, and more in the form of RFCs (Requests For Comments) Engage open source contributors, promote healthy community engagement, and establish standards for effectively working in the open Empathize with the end user and be their voice when influencing priorities and technical decisions Participate in cross-team working groups while developing your knowledge as a subject matter expert Enable your teammates through technical contributions, code reviews, and pairing Work with internal and external stakeholders to determine and prioritize new features and enhancements critical to the success of HashiCorp customers and the broader community What you'll need (basic qualifications) You have 15+ years of professional software engineering experience You have professional experience developing with Go You have experience with command-line API and/or programming language development You have experience or interest in learning Vault You have experience or are interested in working in a source-available development environment You have experience navigating daunting large and complex codebases You have experience leading software development projects from conception to delivery You enjoy working collaboratively on a fully-remote team You have strong written communication skills, and you understand how to use tools like code review to asynchronously unblock and level up your peers
