Custodian

The Custodian is responsible for general housekeeping and cleaning functions of assigned areas. The Custodian will work closely with the cleaning, maintenance and security teams to support increased efficiency and ensure seamless operations of the University. The Custodian should take pride in their important role as a representative of the University as they work with a diverse group of HU colleagues, students and visitors. In keeping with the HU culture, the Custodian possesses strong critical thinking skills, initiative and a friendly disposition.

The Custodian will be assigned to the 2nd shift Monday through Friday 2pm - 10pm

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES (Duties may vary and other duties may be assigned)

• Sweeps, mops, or vacuums and shampoos floors offices and common areas.
• Washes accessible interior and exterior windows.
• Cleans, sanitizes and replenishes restrooms using established practices and procedures.
• Completes trash disposal and recycling removal.
• Empties/cleans wastebaskets and trash containers.
• Cleans, dusts, and wipes furniture, walls, machines and equipment.
• Cleans tables in conference rooms and classrooms.
• Cleans elevators/shines stainless.
• Uses and maintains assigned power equipment and hand tools; buffers, auto scrubbers, extractors, high pressure washers, high speed buffers and vacuums, brooms, mops, and squeegees for the cleaning and general maintenance of floors, walls, carpets, furniture, etc.
• Uses ladders when required in work assignments.
• Follows instructions regarding the use of chemicals and supplies.

Position Requirements

• High school diploma or equivalent.
• Reliable transportation to and from work.
• Experience in housekeeping, commercial cleaning or related custodial work preferred.
• Ability to adhere to all custodian guidelines.
• Ability to refer to daily classroom schedules to obtain best daily cleaning practices.
• Ability to work with others as well as independently.
