About the Department

The Harris County Sheriff’s Office Uniform Supply Division is seeking a detail-oriented and customer-focused clerk to perform a variety of clerical and support functions. Under immediate supervision, the clerk will assist with routine office and warehouse operations, including filing, data entry, uniform and body armor ordering, inventory organization, and providing exceptional customer service to employees and external representatives. This position requires the ability to lift up to 50 pounds daily, strong communication and interpersonal skills, and basic proficiency with Microsoft Word, Excel, and Outlook.

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Provide responsive, high-quality customer service to Sheriff’s Office staff, County employees, external agencies, and the public by delivering accurate and timely information in a professional manner.
  • Answer telephones, take messages, provide information, and route inquiries to appropriate personnel or departments.
  • Measure and process orders for uniforms and body armor across all sizes and divisions.
  • Enter orders and maintain accurate databases using Microsoft Word, Excel, and Outlook.
  • Assist with general warehouse upkeep, organization, and inventory support.
  • Requires consistent adherence to work schedules, including punctuality and the ability to work extended hours when operational demands require it
  • Lift and carry up to 50 pounds as part of daily responsibilities.
  • Perform other assignments and duties as required and/or necessary.

Position Duties

  • High School Diploma or Equivalency.
  • A minimum of one (1) year of paid work experience in an office environment performing clerical duties.
  • Pass pre-employment HCSO Clerical Skills Test with a minimum overall score of 75% and score a typing speed of 35 W.P.M with 85% accuracy

Knowledge of:

  • General knowledge of office methods, procedures, and practices

Skilled in: 

  • Excellent written communication with proper use of grammar, spelling, and punctuation 
  • Excellent communication skills – both written and oral
  • Effective communication with excellent interpersonal skills
  • The use of standard office software programs such as MS Office, Word, Excel, and Outlook
  • Customer service skills

Ability to:

  • Lift and carry up to 50 pounds
  • Use standard word processing and related computer software packages
  • Perform basic arithmetic functions
  • Respond to basic routine inquiries and explain standard policies and procedures to others
  • Operate standard office equipment, including, but not limited to, a typewriter, computer terminal, copier, calculator, scanner, printer, and facsimile machine.
  • Comprehend verbal, written, and electronic communications
  • Articulate verbal, written, and electronic communications in adequate form with satisfactory etiquette that others can comprehend
  • Work cooperatively with diverse populations
