Job Description – Embedded Hardware Engineer
Role Overview
Looking for a passionate and hands-on Embedded Hardware Engineer to join our multidisciplinary engineering team. The ideal candidate will be responsible for the complete hardware development lifecycle — from schematic design and PCB layout to prototyping, hardware bring-up, debugging, and production support.
You will collaborate closely with firmware, mechanical, and production teams to build robust, manufacturable, and cost-effective embedded hardware products.
Key Responsibilities
Hardware Design & Development
- Design and review analog, digital, power, and mixed-signal schematics using EDA tools such as Altium Designer, KiCad, OrCAD, or Cadence.
- Select components based on performance, availability, cost, and lead time.
- Perform design reviews and schematic verification before PCB layout.
PCB Layout & Manufacturing
- Design high-quality multi-layer PCBs following signal integrity, EMC/EMI, and thermal management best practices.
- Apply DFMA (Design for Manufacturability & Assembly) principles to optimize manufacturing and assembly.
- Generate fabrication files including Gerbers, drill files, assembly drawings, and BOMs.
- Coordinate with PCB fabrication and assembly vendors.
- Manage Engineering Change Orders (ECOs) and version-controlled design files.
Prototyping & Hardware Bring-up
- Assemble and rework prototype PCBs, including SMD and through-hole components.
- Perform board bring-up activities including power validation, communication interface testing, and peripheral integration.
- Debug hardware using oscilloscopes, logic analyzers, DMMs, spectrum analyzers, and JTAG/SWD debuggers.
- Work closely with firmware teams for hardware-software integration and debugging.
BOM & Production Support
- Create and maintain multi-level Bills of Materials (BoMs), Approved Vendor Lists (AVLs), and alternate component lists.
- Coordinate with procurement teams to manage component availability and obsolescence.
- Support production engineering teams with DFM improvements, testing setups, and manufacturing documentation.
Cross-functional Collaboration
- Collaborate with firmware, mechanical, and production teams during product development.
- Participate in design reviews, risk assessments, and project planning activities.
- Support product validation, testing, and compliance activities.
Required Qualifications
- Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Electronics Engineering, Electrical Engineering, or a related field.
- 3–8 years of hands-on experience in embedded hardware/product development.
Required Skills
- Strong expertise in schematic capture and multi-layer PCB design.
- Proficiency with Altium Designer, KiCad, OrCAD, or Cadence.
- Strong understanding of analog and digital electronics.
- Experience with microcontrollers, power electronics, and embedded systems.
- Hands-on experience with communication protocols such as SPI, I2C, UART, USB, CAN, and Ethernet.
- Experience in hardware bring-up, debugging, and validation.
- SMD soldering and PCB rework expertise.
- Experience managing BoMs and production handoff documentation.
Preferred Skills
- High-speed digital design experience (DDR, USB 3.x, PCIe, SerDes).
- RF/wireless hardware design knowledge (Bluetooth, Wi-Fi, LoRa, Zigbee).
- Knowledge of EMC/EMI compliance and safety standards.
- Familiarity with ECAD–MCAD integration workflows.
- Python scripting for automation and testing.
- Experience in Agile or NPI hardware development environments.
