HSE INTERMEDIATE & JUNIOR HIGH SCHOOL ATHLETIC DIRECTOR / ADMINISTRATOR
QUALIFICATIONS: Administrative License Preferred, Degree and/or experience directing/coaching athletic teams
JOB GOAL: The Athletic Director / Administrator shall oversee the school’s athletic department and sport teams and assume responsibility for a variety of student management roles. The Athletic Director / Administrator will see that the athletic program is conducted in a manner that is competitive, sportsmanlike, and represents a positive example for the community. The Athletic Director / Administrator will assist the principal and/or assistant principal in the areas of leadership, supervision, and student management.
TERMS: 190 days. Salary established annually by the Board
Reports to: Principal
PERFORMANCE RESPONSIBILITIES:
General Responsibilities:
- Organize and administer the overall athletic program.
- Provide leadership in the selection of coaches.
- Evaluate head coaches.
- Assume responsibility for the organization and scheduling of athletic events.
- In cooperation with appropriate staff members order supplies, uniforms, and equipment for the athletic program.
- Oversee practice schedules for indoor and outdoor facilities.
- Provide for yearly physical examinations to offer to all students.
- Organize an awards system and plan recognition awards program for the athletes.
- Work with the transportation department to assure that there is transportation for away contests.
- Supervise the storing, cleaning, and care of all athletic equipment.
- Assume administrative role over staff lunch assignments, student lunch supervision, and adult supervisors in the cafeteria during lunch.
- Organize and supervise transportation/bus procedures. Contact person for the transportation staff in matters of student conduct.
- Assume administrative role over school convocation planning, management, and supervision.
- Serve as on-call building administrator.
- Administrative representation for building committees such as school safety, sense-of-belonging, etc.
- Engagement in handbook development, MTSS strategies, school attendance procedures, etc.
- Assist the principal and assistant principal with the teacher observation process.
- Complete other tasks as requested by the principal.
Specific Athletic Director Responsibilities:
- Work with IHSAA rules and guidelines by:
- Submitting dated materials to the IHSAA
- Oversee the athletic programs for sports assigned to the Athletic Director:
- Schedule contests and officials
- Organize home events (gym set-ups, assign locker rooms, care for
- Assign workers (ticket sales, scoreboard operators, P.A. people, etc.) for events
- Supervise home events
- Organize security for home events
- Prepare contest programs
- Collect inventories at the end of each season
- Attend any special meetings associated with your sports
- Prepare P.O.’s for officials and entry fees for your assigned sports.
