Information on the division:
Located in Strongsville, the 90+ employee facility (100,000 sq. ft.) is one of Héroux-Devtek’s centers of excellence for the final assembly of landing gear.
As part of the Central Division, you will lead P&L responsible for critical machining operations of major commercial aircraft programs such as the Boeing 777 and Embraer E-2, and important military programs as F-18, F-35, C-17 and C-130.
With a strong focus on latest technology of manufacturing processes with machining automation and techniques we aim to remain the best value producer of complex landing gear components.

Summary:
The Tooling Process Engineer assists in the optimization and support of surface finishing processes. The Engineer mainly focuses on the development, manufacturing, and implementation of new tooling, maintenance, and optimization of existing tooling. They partner with team members in various continuous improvement activities and ensure high quality production yields for the different plating processes.
Main responsibilities:
- Support day-to-day shop floor production activities:
- Evaluate tooling related issues with surface finishing and electro-plating processes. Resolve issues to improve processes economically while still maintaining quality.
- Provide technical expertise and support to plating operators, machinists, maintenance, and management.
- Evaluate tooling condition and performance to determine maintenance or replacement requirements.
- Hands on repair and maintenance upkeep of existing tooling and fixtures.
- Design and develop plating tooling for the processing of new parts being introduced to the facility.
- Reverse-engineer existing tooling and troubleshoot issues.
- Procure and test plating tooling, fixtures, and replacement components from suppliers.
- Organize and structure tooling inventory for the processing shop.
- Maintain organized breakdown of supplier tooling expense documents (quotes, POs, CAPEX forms, etc.) for cost comparison and analysis.
- Document and participate as needed in audits for NADCAP and AS9100.
Our ideal candidate:
- Bachelor’s degree in engineering or technical field.
- Strong mechanical aptitude, problem solving and analytical skills.
- Previous experience designing tooling and fixturing including GD&T, methods of construction, and material selection.
- Experience with SolidWorks and/or Catia (or equivalent CAD program).
- Effectively collaborate with other engineers and operators.
- Experience with process implementation and continuous improvement.
- Ability to follow DFM/DFMA concepts to improve quality and lower costs.
