Guidewire Quality Engineering (QE) Leader
Role purpose:
Provide enterprise level leadership and accountability for Quality Engineering across the Guidewire estate. Own quality strategy, test effectiveness, automation, and release confidence across run and change, ensuring Guidewire platforms remain stable, scalable, compliant, and fit for business growth.
The QE Leader defines how quality is engineered into the platform, not just how testing is executed.
Key responsibilities:
Enterprise QE strategy & ownership:
- Define and own the Guidewire Quality Engineering strategy across all BUs
- Establish a shift left, automation first, risk based QE model
- Ensure consistent quality practices across projects, enhancements, and run
- Align QE strategy to CIP delivery model, SRE principles, and governance
Test governance & quality standards:
- Define enterprise standards for:
- Test strategy and coverage
- Automation frameworks
- Regression and release qualification
- Performance testing
- Ensure adherence to quality gates across SDLC and releases
- Own defect triage, prioritization, and leakage prevention framework
- Maintain audit ready traceability and evidence for testing activities
Automation & platform enablement:
- Drive Guidewire focused test automation (functional, integrations)
- Own regression suite strategy and execution effectiveness
- Promote reuse of test assets, data, and frameworks across BUs
- Partner with DevSecOps on CI/CD integration for automated testing
- Measure and improve automation ROI and execution reliability
Run quality & reliability partnership:
- Partner with ADM and SRE leaders to reduce production defects
- Own quality inputs into incident, problem, and root cause analysis
- Drive reduction in repeat incidents and change related failures
- Ensure quality engineering directly supports availability and SLO goals
Performance, security & non functional quality:
- Own performance testing strategy and benchmarks for Guidewire
- Ensure proactive identification of scalability and throughput risks
- Lead security and vulnerability testing coordination for Guidewire
- Ensure compliance with Zurich security and regulatory standards
Delivery leadership & performance management:
- Lead QE managers, automation leads, and test engineers
- Set clear performance metrics for QE effectiveness and efficiency
- Drive continuous improvement in:
- Defect leakage
- Regression effectiveness
- Time to release
- Act as escalation point for quality related delivery risks
Talent & capability leadership:
- Own QE skill strategy: automation, performance, security testing
- Build and maintain a strong QE talent pipeline via academy and upskilling
- Reduce dependency on manual testing through capability evolution
- Coach QE leaders and embed a strong quality culture across delivery teams
Stakeholder & executive engagement:
- Represent quality posture and risks to senior IT and business leadership
- Provide data driven insights on release readiness and quality trends
- Shape expectations on release confidence, risk trade offs, and timelines
- Build trust in Core Insurance Platform’s (CIP’s) ability to deliver change safely at scale
Required skills & experience:
- 15+ years in Quality Engineering / Test leadership roles
- Strong experience with enterprise scale application platforms
- Deep exposure to Guidewire testing (PC/CC/BC, Jutro preferred)
- Proven leadership of automation first QE transformations
- Strong understanding of SDLC, DevSecOps, and release management
- Experience in regulated, multi-business unit environments
- Excellent leadership, governance, and stakeholder management skills
Desirable experience:
- Guidewire Cloud testing and SaaS release models
- Performance testing at scale for transaction heavy platforms
- QE leadership in shared services or platform teams
- Close collaboration with SRE and reliability engineering functions
