About the role

Job Summary:
The Controller leads the accounting function, financial reporting, internal controls, and compliance for GuideWell. This role partners closely with executive leadership to provide accurate, timely, and actionable financial information, while strengthening governance, improving operational efficiency, and supporting strategic decision-making. The Controller ensures the integrity of financial results, oversees month-end and year-end close activities, and maintains a strong control environment in a highly regulated setting.


Essential Functions:

  • The essential functions listed represent the major duties of this role, additional duties may be assigned. 

     

  • Financial Close and Core Accounting:
    Direct all accounting operations, including general ledger, accounts payable, accounts receivable, payroll, fixed assets, and related functions. 
    Oversee the monthly, quarterly, and annual close process to ensure financial statements are accurate, complete, and issued on time.
    Review and approve journal entries, reconciliations, and supporting schedules for accracy and completeness.
    Maintain documented accounting policies, procedures, and controls that support compliance and consistency.
    Ensure customer revenue is recorded appropriately, review receivables, and monitor collection and aging trends.
  • Audit, Compliance, and Regulatory Reporting:
    Coordinate external and regulatory audits and related documentation requests to ensure timely completion.
    Prepare reports and filings required by governmental, regulatory, and statutory agencies.
    Partner with compliance, care management, operations, and executive leadership on financial governance and regulatory requirements.
    Support adherence to applicable federal, state, and local regulations, as well as healthcare-specific requirements.
  • Leadership and Process Improvement 
    Lead process improvement efforts to strengthen controls, improve efficiency, and enhance reporting quality.
    Supervise, train, mentor, and evaluate accounting staff.
    Participate in leadership meetings and serve as a trusted financial advisor to senior management.
    Oversee capital assets, including acquisition, transfer, disposal, and annual inventory.
    Support system improvements and workflow enhancements across accounting operations.
     

Required Work Experience:
6+ years related work experience. 

Experience Details: Progressive accounting or finance experience. Experience managing month-end close, financial reporting, internal controls, and audit coordination. 

Demonstrated experience across multiple accounting functions, including AP, AR, payroll, fixed assets, and general ledger. 
3+ years direct supervisory/management experience 
Related Bachelor's degree required Accounting 
CPA - Certified Public Accountant 
3+ years of statutory accounting experience 
Experience leading accounting staff and coordinating work across finance, operations, and administrative teams. 
Demonstrated ability to manage deadlines, priorities, and team performance in a fast-paced environment. 
Experience coaching, developing, and evaluating team members.

 

Preferred Qualifications:
Master’s degree Accounting, Finance, Business Administration, or Healthcare Administration. 
Experience with public accounting audit processes or financial statement audit coordination 

Experience in healthcare finance, hospital accounting, or a related regulated environment strongly preferred. Experience with ERP and financial systems used in healthcare environments. 

Strong knowledge of Model Audit Rule controls, audit readiness, and compliance practices. 

Advanced Excel, financial modeling, and analytical reporting skills. 

Ability to translate financial data into actionable business recommendations. 

Experience improving accounting workflows, automating processes, and enhancing reporting systems. 

Strong verbal, written, analytical, and interpersonal communication skills. 

Ability to work under pressure while maintaining accuracy, confidentiality, and sound judgment. 
 

General Physical Demands:
Sedentary work: Exerting up to 10 pounds of force occasionally to move objects. Jobs are sedentary if traversing activities are required only occasionally. 
 

Physical/Environmental Activities:
Must be able to travel to multiple locations for work (i.e. travel to attend meetings, events, conferences). Occasionally

Annualized Salary Range: $109,300 - $177,600

Typical Annualized Hiring Range: $109,300 - $136,600

Final pay will be determined with consideration of market competitiveness, internal equity, and the job-related knowledge, skills, training, and experience you bring.
