About the role

Aquarium Cleaning Technician – Grubby Guppies Inc
Woodstock/ Kennesaw Area & Lawrenceville/Dacula Area | Metro Atlanta

Are you detail-oriented, self-motivated, and enjoy working independently? Grubby Guppies Inc is hiring Aquarium Cleaning Technicians. This role is hands-on, mostly independent, and physically active.

Responsibilities:
  • Clean and maintain freshwater & saltwater aquariums (water changes, algae removal, equipment checks, troubleshooting plumbing/electrical/livestock) at residential and commercial locations.
  • Follow clear service processes and checklists.
  • Represent the company professionally on-site.
  • Drive to multiple client locations daily.
  • Customer Service - communicate with clients and management.
Why Grubby Guppies Inc?
We’re a growing, hands-on company that cares about the quality of our work and the people who do it. While we’re still building out some of our systems, we place a strong emphasis on supporting our technicians, fostering independence, and creating a culture where your effort directly shows in the results.

Here’s what makes working here different:
  • Autonomy: Most of your day is spent working independently, managing your own time (based on your assigned  schedule), and seeing the impact of your work firsthand.
  • Performance Recognition: Our pay structure rewards efficiency and quality - you see your effort reflected in your earnings.
  • Growth Opportunity: As we continue to expand, there’s room to take on more responsibility, lead initiatives, and grow within the company.
  • Supportive Environment: Even though we’re hands-off day-to-day, we’re committed to giving you the guidance, tools, and feedback you need to succeed.
  • Meaningful Work: You’re not just cleaning aquariums - you’re helping clients maintain a beautiful, healthy aquatic environment, and your work makes a visible difference every day.

If you thrive in an environment where initiative, reliability, and pride in your work matter more than constant supervision, you’ll likely do very well here.

Day in the Life:
You’ll start by reviewing your route and loading supplies at your designated base. At each stop, you’ll carry in equipment & water, perform a full cleaning, and leave the tank spotless/balanced. Most of your day is solo, so you must stay productive without supervision. Some days are physically demanding or messy, but seeing the results of your work is immediately rewarding.

Pay & Benefits:
  • $12.00/hr during training (3–4 weeks; not performance pay eligible).
  • $12.25/hr as a solo technician after training.
  • $18 per tank performance pay (efficient technicians often earn $18–$25/hr total).
  • Paid drive time between jobs.

Requirements:
  • Must use your personal vehicle for daily routes.
  • Be comfortable driving in and around Metro Atlanta (up to 55 miles ).
  • Must be comfortable signing a non-compete agreement.

Hiring Timeline:
  • Applications accepted through: May 25.
  • Initial interviews: May 26-29.
  • Secondary interviews: June 1-5.
  • Start/Training: June 8   (3–4 weeks in the Gwinnett Area).
  • 1 Shadowing week & 1 tank handoff week in your designated service area (work with team members on some of the tanks you’ll take responsibility for before you go solo so you can ask questions and get to know the client; handoff week will be a mix of training and solo opportunities).
  • If all goes well, expect to be solo on tanks by Mid to End of July.

Who We’re Looking For:
  • Reliable, self-motivated, independent workers.
  • Strong attention to detail.
  • Curious demeanor (someone who isn’t afraid to ask questions and learn).
  • Comfortable following processes.
  • Comfortable communicating verbally and written.
  • Physically able to lift, bend, and carry equipment (up to 50lbs daily ; occasionally more with team assistance).
  • Valid driver’s license, car insurance and dependable vehicle (large capacity vehicle is a plus).
  • Available for one of the following shifts:  Mon-Wed 8am-4pm , Mon-Wed 10am-6pm, Tues-Fri 9am-5pm, Tues-Thurs 9am-6pm  (These are availability windows and are not guaranteed hours; hours worked depend on service request volume. As your service area grows, more hours may be available.)
  • Be Comfortable signing a non-compete agreement.

Application Questions (Required):
  • This job involves entering people’s homes and businesses ( supervised or unsupervised by the client) and servicing living animal habitats. Are you comfortable talking to people from all walks of life? How do you feel about working with fish & turtles?
  • This is independent work with minimal supervision. Tell us about a time you stayed productive without oversight.
  • On a tough day (behind schedule, messy tanks, long drive), what keeps you pushing to finish strong?

Priority will be given to candidates who answer thoughtfully and completely.
