Our ReStores play a vital role in the mission to build affordable housing. By accepting donations of new and gently used furniture, appliances, building materials, clothing, electronics, and home goods, then selling at discounted prices, our ReStores promote sustainability while increasing access to affordable resources. Our dedicated teams of staff and volunteers work hard to maintain a constant flow of goods while providing excellent customer service. ReStore proceeds fund the construction of permanently affordable housing for families and individuals in Northwestern Vermont.

Description

Location: ReStores in Williston, Milton & Swanton

FLSA Status: Full-Time Hourly, Non-Exempt

Schedule: Five Days Per Week (according to store needs)

Travel: None

Reports To: ReStore Manager

Supervises: ReStore Associates

Pay: $17-18/hour


Summary:

ReStore Supervisors oversee Associates, manage donation drop-offs, maintain the donation line and warehouse, and handle pricing. They organize products on the sales floor and cover the cashier when needed, while providing excellent customer service and sharing Green Mountain Habitat for Humanity’s mission. They facilitate activities like testing and moving large appliances, unloading trucks, organizing clothing bales and shipping containers, and assisting with product movement throughout the store.


Requirements

Primary Responsibilities:

  • Coordinate with Store Leaders to support them in filling areas of need for new donations.
  • Unload donated items from Donor’s vehicles. Approve or deny donations.
  • Maintain an inventory of all shipping containers; move and organize product.
  • Supervise the donations department. Sort, price, and clean donations that come in through the donation lane and use best practices to move larger items such as furniture.
  • Work with the Procurement Manager to communicate any needs in the donation department.
  • Train new and existing staff on Donation Lane tasks/responsibilities.
  • Use a forklift to move and store clothing bales and perform safety checks when needed. 
  • Complete opening and closing procedures for the store, including reconciling the cash drawer. Lead the completion of the daily checklist for opening and closing the store.
  • Promote a cooperative and mutually beneficial relationship between procurement, operations, and all ReStore support teams.
  • Act as a point of contact for staff who have questions, respond when called to requests for assistance from the cashiers, and assign tasks to staff to ensure efficient use of their time.
  • Assign tasks and provide basic training to new and regular volunteers. Escalate any concerns or complaints to Managers.


Secondary Responsibilities:

  • Proactively maintain and develop donor relationships.
  • Process customer transactions through point-of-sale system. While on register, stay within sight of register area and front door.
  • Help customers carry purchased items to their vehicles.
  • Sort clothing donations and prepare them to be moved to the sales floor.
  • Ensure that back warehouse areas and yard areas are kept organized, and all walkways remain clear.
  • Assist the Marketing Manager with ideas for outreach materials.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.



Qualifications


Education and Experience:

  • Previous experience working in a retail environment.
  • Forklift certification and a valid driver’s license (preferred).
  • 2+ years in customer service, dispatching, or a customer-facing role (preferred).
  • Retail supervisory experience (preferred). 
  • High school diploma (preferred).


Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

  • Able to communicate well with staff, volunteers, and any visitor to the ReStore.
  • Dependable and able to stick to a schedule.
  • Excellent customer service skills to respond to any questions or concerns. 
  • Strong time management and the ability to assign tasks to others.
  • Strong organizational skills to assist with logistics and scheduling.
  • Strong reading and writing comprehension.
  • Able to work both independently and as part of a team.
  • Detail-oriented, organized, and able to prioritize multiple tasks effectively.
  • Able to lead a team and resolve minor conflicts. 
  • Knowledge of best safety practices in a warehouse and retail store.
  • Light arithmetic skills to accurately work on the register.



Specifications


Physical Requirements:

  • Lift, pick up, carry, place down, and bring upstairs at least 50lbs.
  • Walk or stand for long periods in the back warehouse, traverse stairs, and navigate a busy sales floor.
  • Squat to pick up items from the floor and perform repetitive data entry on the register and pricing motions.


Tools and Equipment to be Used:

  • Forklift.
  • Other equipment as needed for specialty donations.


Work Environment:

  • Fast-paced, occasionally noisy.



Compensation & Benefits

The pay for this position is $17-18 hourly. Benefits include Paid Time Off that is accrued with every shift, paid holidays, a health reimbursement plan ($6,450/year), and a 20% discount to Green Mountain Habitat for Humanity ReStores.
