Set Carpenter/Set Designer for Film & Television Production
Position Overview
We are seeking a motivated and hands-on Set Carpenter/Designer to support the build and installation of props and various set designs for film and television productions. This role is ideal for someone with a construction or carpentry background who is comfortable using power tools and enjoys building creative, visually driven projects in a fast-paced production environment. The perfect candidate is local to the Bethlehem, PA area or willing to travel there to assist on set for pre-production and production.
You should be able to collaborate with different creative teams and be able to delegate tasks and make decisions under pressure. This is a project based position.
Key Responsibilities
- Assist with the construction, assembly, and installation of film and television sets, props and scenic elements.
- Operate power tools and hand tools safely and efficiently, including drills, saws, sanders, nail guns, and other shop equipment
- Read and follow basic construction drawings, measurements, and build plans
- Help transport, organize, and maintain materials, tools, and workshop spaces
- Support set strike and breakdown after filming wraps
- Perform basic carpentry, painting, finishing, and repair work as needed
- Work collaboratively with production teams to meet deadlines and creative expectations
- Maintain a safe and clean work environment at all times
- Help design layouts and look of set based off given dimensions and budget and working within those constraints.
- Understanding and meeting all safety standards and briefing crew/actors on how the set operates.
Qualifications
- Previous experience in construction, carpentry, woodworking, theater production, scenic fabrication, or a related field preferred especially for Television sets.
- Strong creative Vision
- Comfortable using power tools and basic construction equipment
- Ability to lift and move materials and work on your feet for extended periods
- Strong attention to detail and ability to follow direction
- Positive attitude and willingness to work in a collaborative, fast-paced environment
- Experience building sets, props, scenic elements, and especially action/stunt props
Preferred Skills
- Basic knowledge of scenic painting or prop finishing techniques
- Experience working on film, television, theater, live events, or creative productions
- Ability to problem-solve and adapt quickly on set
