Summary

Repair and maintain tools and equipment. Perform required routine preventative, predictive, and corrective maintenance. Perform other related duties and work for Field Services, Water, and Wastewater Plant Operations.

Job Responsibilities

•    Assist with maintenance of pumping mechanical and chemical equipment 
•    Assist with rebuilding, replacing, and dismantling pumps, plumbing fixtures,

valves, and plumbing related equipment
•    Assist with rigging and completion of repairs of heavy equipment and

machinery 
•    Assist with equipment alignment 
•    Assist with completion of valve, piping, and plumbing repairs 
•    Power wash filters to improve water quality
•    Complete required mandatory and operational training 
•    Provide on the job training
•    Lead and perform rigging, soldering, welding, cutting, and machinery alignment 
•    Lead and perform predictive, corrective, and preventative maintenance 
•    Read and comprehend schematics, specifications, instructions,

maintenance manuals, and prints 
•    Perform machinery alignment with large blowers, pumps, and motors 
•    Perform plumbing and pipe fitting 
•    Complete required mandatory and operational training 
•    Utilize CMMS software for asset identification and work order optimization 
•    Create and perform tests to assist with troubleshooting 
•    Maintain various records and prepare reports 
•    Assist with the efficient sizing of replacement equipment  
•    Lead and mentor team member training 
•    Perform and teach shop math 
 

Required Education and Experience

At the time of application, applicant must:

  • High School Diploma or GED
  • Minimum of six (6) years of experience in completing maintenance or troubleshooting for water or wastewater treatment facilities, industrial facilities, pumping stations, or similar facilities

AND

  • MWEA (CWEA) Mechanical Technologist Grade 3 Certification

OR

  • *MWEA (CWEA) Mechanical Technologist Grade 2 certification

AND possess one of the following journeymen cards, licenses, or certifications:

  • Carpenter OR
  • Millwright OR
  • Plumber OR
  • Journeyman licensed or certified in an applicable skilled trade (must be approved by CEO or designee)

Other Requirements

  • Valid Michigan Driver’s License

Essential Requirements

Physical Requirements:

The position requires the ability to climb ladders, scaffold, work in confined spaces, elevated locations, and descent underground. Lift a minimum of 50 pounds, walk, stand, or work for long periods of time. Demonstrate normal color perception, hear audible alarms, and detect abnormal equipment sounds. Visually inspect equipment and processes at any time of the day or night, pass a bio-mechanical physical, vision, baseline physical and annual fit tests, wear respiratory protection, and other personal protective equipment. Perform a variety of laboring tasks involving carrying, stacking, digging, shoveling, hitting, pushing, pulling, and other efforts requiring considerable physical strength and stamina.

Environmental Working Requirements:

Work is performed in the field or plant environment. Work may be performed in confined spaces, hazardous areas that require respiratory protection and personal protective equipment (PPE), and under slippery and wet conditions.
