Role Description
Gravity & Magnetic Instrument Operators at Retro Geoenergy are responsible for operating, maintaining, and calibrating gravity and magnetic survey instruments during field operation. On-site, the operator will collect geophysical measurements according to project plans, follow survey lines, and record metadata such as time, location, and environmental conditions. Daily tasks include preparing equipment and supplies, verifying instrument functionality, assisting with survey, and ensuring data quality through routine checks and basic troubleshooting. The role also involves adhering to safety protocols, working in varying field conditions, collaborating with geophysicists and field technicians, and supporting data transfer and documentation at the end of each shift.
Qualifications
- Ability to operate, calibrate, and perform basic troubleshooting on gravity and magnetic instruments and related field equipment.
- Competence in field data collection, including accurate recording of measurements, GPS coordinates, and survey metadata.
- Strong attention to detail, basic numeracy, and the ability to follow technical instructions and standardized procedures.
- Physical ability and willingness to work in outdoor environments, walk survey lines, and handle equipment over varied terrain.
- Good communication and teamwork skills to coordinate with geophysicists, survey leads, and other field staff.
- Basic computer skills for data entry, file management, and use of simple data logging or mapping tools.
- Prior experience in geophysical surveys, land surveying, or field operations is an advantage.
- Relevant technical diploma or degree in geophysics, geology, earth sciences, or a related field is preferred but not mandatory.
- Commitment to safety practices and compliance with company policies and environmental guidelines.
