The Viscosity is a student-led digital magazine dedicated to exploring science, technology, history, society, and interdisciplinary ideas through well-researched, evidence-based articles. Our goal is to make complex topics accessible, engaging, and visually compelling while fostering curiosity and critical thinking.
About the Role
We are seeking a Volunteer Editorial Designer to help create the visual identity of The Viscosity. You will work closely with the editorial team to design professional magazine layouts, covers, and graphics that enhance the reader's experience.
This is an opportunity to contribute to a growing publication, collaborate with a passionate team, and build a strong portfolio in editorial and publication design.
Responsibilities
- Design clean, modern magazine layouts and article pages.
- Create cover designs for each issue.
- Maintain a consistent visual identity throughout the magazine.
- Design infographics, diagrams, and other visual elements when required.
- Work collaboratively with writers and editors to present content effectively.
- Prepare publication-ready files for digital distribution.
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience with Adobe InDesign, Adobe Illustrator, Adobe Photoshop, Figma, Canva, or similar design software.
- Understanding of typography, layout design, and visual hierarchy.
- Strong attention to detail.
- Ability to work independently and meet agreed deadlines.
- A portfolio showcasing design work is preferred but not required.
