ISS STOXX is actively hiring a Governance Research Analyst for Mumbai (Goregaon East) location.
Overview
ISS STOXX seeks to hire a full-time analyst to join its corporate governance research team in Mumbai. The primary duties and responsibilities of the position are to conduct research, write reports, and make proxy vote recommendations for institutional investor clients. Key requirements for the position are strong analytical, writing, communication, and organizational skills. In addition, those interested in this position should have an interest in the provision of unbiased corporate governance advice to the institutional investor community. Experience in analyzing general proxy voting and/or corporate responsibility issues is a plus.
Responsibilities
- Analyze corporate governance and financial information to process data and write research reports on publicly traded companies in India.
- Gain understanding of investment and shareholder issues through research, including analysis of corporate strategy and financial statements, and incorporating ISS' analytical frameworks and policy guidelines. Identify and collaborate on ISS guidelines changes and amendments based on regulatory changes or changes to governance landscape.
- Participate in engagement meetings and calls with company secretaries, investor relations team and directors, financial and legal advisors, as well as institutional investors, as part of research process to discuss any issues with shareholder proposals and provide background about ISS policy guidelines
- Develop market overviews and generate research notes on developing governance trends, emerging situations, and other governance-focused topics for internal and external clients
- Contribute to seasonal reviews, webinars, presentations to clients, bulletin calls, and other client-focused research reports. Present data, statistical information and analyse governance trends.
- Review the work, and contribute to the development & training, of research analysts across functional teams and regions
- Answer internal/external client/corporate issuer queries on research reports and participate in discussions and development of ISS policy
- Identify and implement improvements to data analysis, shareholder proposals analysis and reporting processes to enhance efficiency and accuracy.
Qualifications
- 1 to 5 years capital market experience preferably in domain such as Proxy Advisory or Asset Management Industry.
- Understanding of corporate governance, regulations such as Companies Act, SEBI (Listing Regulations) or proxy voting is a advantageous.
- Strong analytical skill with excellent oral and written communication skills
- Master's degree in finance, economics, business, accounting, and international relations, or equivalent experience. Bachelor’s degree in law, Chartered Accountancy or Company Secretary .
- Master's degree in a related field or MBA or CFA qualifications or equivalent work experience preferred
- Understanding of financial and non-financial investors' concerns, especially the role of corporate governance from an institutional investor's perspective
- Familiarity with regulatory filings and disclosure formats and requirements of listed stocks is preferred
- Goal-oriented and comfortable with ambiguity and able to prioritize, anticipate, and deliver multiple, sometimes competing objectives under tight deadlines
- Strong organization skills, teamwork and ability to work independently
