Summary:
The Rehabilitation Services Director provides strategic and operational leadership for Physical Therapy (PT), Occupational Therapy (OT), and Speech-Language Pathology (SLP). This role is responsible for the delivery of high-quality, cost-effective patient care that meets the unique needs of our rural community. The Director ensures that the department is a core pillar of GRMC’s Medical Home strategy. Responsible for daily operations and the achievement of standards related to quality care, employee and patient satisfaction, physician satisfaction, and fiscal responsibility of care delivery.
Essential Functions:
- Oversees daily operations, including scheduling, resource allocation, and budget management.
- Develop, implement, and monitor the results of departmental goals and objectives, developing out-patient models of care budgets marketing plans staff development initiatives communications plans.
- Partners with the providers and nursing leadership to ensure rehab is integrated into interdisciplinary care plans, especially for complex inpatient and swing-bed cases.
- Actively participates in partnering with department staff, and staff from other services areas, across the care continuum, to ensure that patients receive the appropriate level of care, achieve optimal outcomes, and maintain a high level of staff morale.
- Maintains continuous compliance with CMS Conditions of Participation (CoPs), KDHE regulations, and Appendix W standards.
- Will actively participate in education and staff development regarding regulatory standards and conditions of participation.
- Demonstrates empathy and fosters an inclusive, safe environment for staff and patients.
- Fosters a culture of psychological safety and accountability by fostering departmental trust and behavioral norms.
- Develops and implements marketing and outreach plans to expand outpatient services and rural health initiatives.
- Develops, oversees, and facilitates quality services by implementing, reviewing the quality improvement programs, reviewing, revising, and writing policies and procedures while maintaining compliance with outside agencies to meet system needs.
- Leads Quality Assessment and Performance Improvement (QAPI) initiatives, utilizing patient feedback.
- Ensures the delivery of quality services for inpatients and outpatients by identifying and developing effective departmental policies and procedures recruiting, retaining, and coaching competent staff holding/attending/facilitating organizational meetings.
- Ability to align departmental goals with the hospital's long-term regional strategy.
- Perform or delegates responsibilities to staff that include but are not limited to directing the scheduling and treatment of patients, communication with other hospital staff, orientation of new staff, requisitioning of supplies and equipment, special projects as needed.
- Ongoing analysis of clinical service performance, monitoring trends and opportunities. Initiate/recommend service improvement.
- Demonstrates knowledge of physical therapy modalities and exercise equipment.
- Interacts professionally with patient/family and involves patient/family in formation of the plan of care.
- Communicates appropriately and clearly to physicians, staff, and administrative team.
- Maintains records pertinent to personnel and operation of the department.
- Maintains a good working relationship both within the department and with other departments.
- Documentation meets current standards and policies.
- Assists with orientation and in-service training for certified department staff members, participates in guidance and education programs.
- Provides evaluation of certified staff including interviewing, hiring, evaluation and termination.

Position Qualifications:
Minimum Education: Bachelor’s Degree (minimum) in Physical, Occupational, or Speech Therapy. Master’s or Doctorate preferred.
Minimum Experience: Minimum of 5 years of clinical experience, with at least 2 years in a leadership or supervisory role (ideally in a CAH or rural setting).
Certifications/Licensures: Current Kansas license in a rehabilitation field.
Working Environment: Frequently sitting, standing, and walking while carrying out duties. Ability to assist with patient transfers and mobility. Should be in good physical condition and able to assist with patients as needed. At times, may be exposed to unpleasant elements. Due to the nature of profession, may be exposed to blood-borne pathogens/illnesses.
