About FTC Solar Inc
FTC Solar is a global leader in solar tracker systems and software solutions, committed to accelerating renewable energy deployment through technical excellence, automation, and product innovation. We design and deliver high-performance, low-cost tracking solutions backed by deep engineering expertise and real-world project execution.
POSITION OVERVIEW
We are seeking a Senior Geotechnical Engineer to support foundation engineering efforts across global solar tracker projects.
You will drive geotechnical design optimization aligned with project-specific site conditions (e.g., frost, liquefaction, heave), ensure alignment with international codes, and contribute to the automation of foundation engineering workflows.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
• Interpret geotechnical reports (borings, lab results, CPTs) and guide project-specific foundation design.
• Develop embedded depth recommendations, accounting for axial and lateral demands, liquefaction zones, and swelling soils.
• Review Pile Load Test (PLT) programs; interpret test data to finalize design specs.
• Address site risks such as groundwater, frost depth, collapsible soils, and expansive clays.
• Select foundation types (e.g., driven piles, screw piles, spread footings) and optimize based on terrain, geotech constraints, and tracker loads.
• Interface with structural engineering team to integrate soil-structure interaction in tracker design.
• Contribute to design automation using tools like Python, Excel macros, and custom scripting.
QUALIFICATIONS
• M.E./M.Tech. in Geotechnical Engineering with emphasis on soil mechanics or foundation design.
• 3-6 years of experience in geotechnical engineering, including 1 years in renewable energy.
• Strong command of geotechnical software such as LPile, Group, and lateral analysis tools.
• Familiarity with U.S. and international codes: AASHTO, IBC, Eurocode, IS, etc.
• Strong working knowledge of soil-structure interaction, pile group behavior, and terrain-following tracker loads.
• Experience developing geotechnical recommendations across various soil profiles (rock, clay, sand, fill).
• Strong technical writing and documentation skills.
