Job Summary
The LiDAR Data Post-Processing Specialist is responsible for processing, analyzing, and validating LiDAR point cloud data to generate accurate geospatial deliverables. The role involves cleaning raw LiDAR datasets, performing point cloud classification, generating terrain models, and ensuring outputs meet project specifications and quality standards.
Key Responsibilities
- Process raw LiDAR data collected from aerial, mobile, or terrestrial platforms.
- Perform point cloud cleaning, noise removal, and normalization.
- Classify LiDAR point clouds into ground, vegetation, buildings, utilities, and other features.
- Generate Digital Elevation Models (DEM), Digital Surface Models (DSM), contours, and derived terrain products.
- Conduct Quality Assurance (QA) and Quality Control (QC) checks to ensure data accuracy and completeness.
- Integrate LiDAR data with GPS/IMU data and other geospatial datasets.
- Perform manual and automated editing of classified point clouds.
- Prepare and deliver final geospatial outputs as per client and project specifications.
- Maintain documentation of processing workflows, metadata, and project reports.
- Collaborate with survey, GIS, and engineering teams to resolve data discrepancies.
- Support multiple concurrent projects while meeting project timelines.
Required Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree / Diploma in Geomatics, Surveying, GIS, Remote Sensing, or related field.
- 3 – 5 years of experience in LiDAR data processing or geospatial data analysis.
- Strong understanding of LiDAR point cloud concepts and LAS/LAZ data formats.
- Hands-on experience with LiDAR processing tools such as:
- TerraScan / TerraModeler
- LAStools
- Global Mapper
- Good knowledge of coordinate systems, projections, and geodetic principles.
- Understanding of LiDAR accuracy standards and data specifications.
Technical Skills
- Point cloud classification and feature extraction
- DEM/DSM generation and contour mapping
- Data QA/QC and accuracy validation
- Basic scripting or automation (Python / batch processing) – preferred
- GIS tools knowledge (ArcGIS / QGIS)
- Ability to interpret survey reports and technical documentation
Preferred / Nice-to-Have Skills
- Experience with UAV LiDAR or Mobile LiDAR datasets
- Knowledge of photogrammetry and imagery integration
- Exposure to infrastructure, corridor mapping, or urban mapping projects
- Familiarity with cloud-based LiDAR processing workflows
Soft Skills
- Strong attention to detail and data accuracy
- Ability to work independently and in collaborative environments
- Good communication and documentation skills
- Strong time management and ability to meet deadlines.
