About the role

Reporting to the Manager, Health, Safety & Wellness, the Health, Safety & Wellness Consultant contributes to a high-performance organization by providing a full range of proactive safety and wellness services to promote a safe and healthy workplace. The Health, Safety & Wellness Consultant is a technical expert in Health and Safety, providing consulting to a variety of stakeholders within the College. The incumbent takes a proactive, prevention-oriented, and continuous improvement approach to develop, implement, and monitor health, safety, and wellness programs at George Brown College. The incumbent ensures implementation of the internal responsibility system (IRS) and GBCs compliance with the best standards of practice within the provincial and federal legislative and regulatory framework. Key Responsibilities: Assists the Health, Safety and Wellness Manager in the development, updating and revision of corporate level health and safety policies, procedures, and action plans. Acts as a resource to College management in developing and implementing Health and Safety solutions to support the Health and Safety Policy, Guidelines and Standard Operating Procedures. Is a subject matter expert in health and safety who represents the College during interactions with the Ministry of Labour, Immigration, Training, and Skills Development (MOLTSD) visits investigative complaints made by employees. Coordinating a response to MOLTSD orders and ensuring that these are completed in a timely matter is essential to protect the College from liability and reputation risk. Establishes and utilizes a framework for investigations that is thorough, objective and aligned with other College complaint/investigation processes. Plans for and interviews relevant witnesses at all levels across the College related to specific investigations such as workplace violence and harassment, WSIB injuries and illnesses. Develops reports on evidence and findings and makes recommendations on remedial measures in conjunction with the Manager of Health, Safety and Wellness, Human Resources, department managers, joint health and safety committees and other parties, as applicable. Creates and fosters a wellness culture for employees by developing, communicating, implementing, and promoting clearly defined programs, initiatives, and measures. Connects with Total Rewards regarding the filing and status of WSIB claims as Form 7s are filed to ensure claims management is appropriately initiated. Designs and ensures on-going management and employee training to ensure compliance related to safety and wellness areas, including designing modules on relevant safety, workplace violence and harassment and wellness topics for online learning. Other related duties as assigned.
