Job Summary: Senior GIS Consultant with a strong background in ocean-related applications, geospatial data processing, and cloud-based system architecture. The ideal candidate will bridge the gap between backend data systems, web-based visualization platforms, and cloud infrastructures to design, develop, and deploy scalable GIS solutions for marine and environmental domains.
Role and Responsibilities:
1.Backend and data systems
· Design and develop RESTful APIs for marine data access and integration across application
2.Frontend and Web application
· Build interactive, responsive web GIS dashboard using framework such as react, Angular.
· Integrate ocean/marine data visualization using tools like Leaflet, Open Layers or others.
· Collaborate with UI/UX teams to deliver intuitive and data-rich user interfaces.
· Integrate real-time and forecast layers through API-driven architecture.
3. Cloud & DevOps
· Deploy and manage GIS solutions on cloud platforms (AWS, GCP)
· Work with containerized applications using Docker
Qualifications:
· Master’s degree in GIS, Oceanography, Computer Science or related field.
· Experience with marine/oceanographic datasets (HYCOM, Copernicus, CMEMS, NOAA, etc.).
· Knowledge of satellite data processing workflows (e.g., Sentinel, MODIS, VIIRS).
· Exposure and hands-on experience to cloud-native geospatial services (GCP, AWS, S3, Lambda)
· Experience with CI/CD tools (GitHub Actions,GitLab CI).
· Work Experience:
· Candidates should have 7+ years of experience in GIS development with at least 3 years in marine applications
Abilities:
· Front- End Technologies: Proficiency in HTML, CSS, and JavaScript, with experience using front-end frameworks (e.g., React) and web mapping libraries (Leaflet, Open Layers, ArcGIS API for JavaScript).
·Programming Languages: Proficiency in programming/scripting languages, especially Python (for automation and analysis) and JavaScript.
- GIS Knowledge: Strong experience with industry-standard GIS software (Esri ArcGIS suite including ArcGIS Online/Enterprise, ArcGIS Pro, or open-source alternatives like QGIS), OGC geospatial standards (WMS, WFS) and spatial databases (PostGIS).
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with ability to work independently and mentor junior staff.
