Position Summary
School Nurse Manager is responsible for the implementation of a pilot project to enhance the school nursing services across Genesee County. The School Nurse Manager will provide supervision, mentorship, professional development, and orientation to new school nurses. The School Nurse Manager will facilitate a countywide community of practice for school nurses that leads to improved health services and education for the children and families in Genesee County.
Minimum Qualifications
Education:
High school diploma or equivalent required. Bachelor’s degree in nursing or related field is required. State of Michigan Registered Nurse (RN) license required; current CPR preferred. Master’s degree in related field preferred.
Experience:
Three years’ experience working with children in a school, pediatric health setting, or as a volunteer. Leadership experience in a nursing environment. Strong knowledge of computer technology, word processing, and database software required.
Compensation & Benefits
Pay Range: $64,372 - $89,854 annually, commensurate with experience and qualifications
Work Schedule: 215 days / 7.5 hours daily

Job Title:
School Nurse Manager
Job Summary:
School Nurse Manager is responsible for the implementation of a pilot project to enhance the
school nursing services across Genesee County. The School Nurse Manager will provide
supervision, mentorship, professional development, and orientation to new school nurses. The
School Nurse Manager will facilitate a countywide community of practice for school nurses that
leads to improved health services and education for the children and families in Genesee
County.
Essential Duties (May include, but not limited to):
1. Provide leadership as the healthcare expert in the school setting by assessing the
overall system of care and developing a plan for ensuring healthcare needs are met
(wellness policies, emergency plans, disasters, infectious disease prevention, crisis
prevention, etc).
2. Provide consultation, leadership, and professional development opportunities for quality
school nursing and public health services to the school district staff for health
promotions and the prevention of communicable disease.
3. Monitor, interpret, synthesize, and disseminate relevant research findings and other
information related to public health, school nursing practice, current legal issues, and
new legislation that impacts school health programs and services.
4. Interpret, review, and disseminate model policies, standards, and best practices to
promote safe, legal, and effective health promotion and communicable disease
prevention strategies.
5. Plan and use professional judgment and act effectively to carry out the functions of this
position within the nurse’s scope of practice.
6. Serve as the health care representative providing guidance and training to the school
districts on developing Medical Emergency Response Teams that integrate local
Emergency Response Systems in each school and support school personnel with
health and medical emergencies in the school.

7. Serve as the health care representative providing guidance and training to the school
districts on appropriate communicable disease prevention strategies including
communicable disease health screening programs, infectious disease reporting, and
contact tracing; and identification of students' chronic health care needs and how they
may be impacted by communicable disease.
8. Review policies developed for school districts to address communicable disease
prevention and mitigation layers.
9. Provide training and technical assistance on the legal requirements and the
development of care plans for students with chronic medical conditions.
10. Provide training to staff tasked with medical care and services to students according to
physician prescribed medical care and treatment orders.
11. Promote confidentiality and privacy rules and regulations in all matters.
12. Promote and support the school’s health system database, updating clinic treatment
notes daily and ensuring billing opportunities are leveraged.
13. Coordinate with local health agencies and medical treatment facilities as necessary.
14. Assist with the coordination of professional development for all faculty and staff.
15. Remain current on the emerging communicable disease guidance to appropriately
answer questions; stay current on cases in the area.
16. Outreach to students at-risk (for communicable disease) for social issues related to
social distancing and offer guidance and information.
17. In coordination with administration, keep parents, family, and staff informed by
proactively communicating updates on communicable conditions and how to address
related stress and anxiety.
18. Assists in program evaluation.
19. Consistently models Win-Win leadership.
Other Duties:
1. At the request of the district, may be asked to fill in for school nurses when needed.
2. Provides appropriate resources to parents and staff about health and human resource
agencies and services.
3. Responsible for providing information and assisting as necessary in the pre-registration
process for the Flint Registry.
4. Performs other related duties as assigned.

communicable diseases and community resources. Ability to perform well during
emergency/crisis situations. Ability to participate in and understand quality assurance and
evaluation activities. Ability to utilize district technology and work to maintain proficiency, as
skill sets change with technology and/or the needs of the district. Punctuality and good
attendance are requirements for the position. Demonstrated mental/physical ability and
stamina for meeting the essential duties of the position. Discretion with confidential
information. Excellent customer service skills and the ability to maintain a calm, poised, and
professional image at all times. Ability to exercise good judgment and make decisions in
accordance with board policies and administrative guidelines.
