What this is
Most internships ask you to make decks and shadow people. This one asks you to help build something from scratch.
The Neighbourhood is building the operating system for modern parenting; a vertically integrated platform that connects physical products, digital guidance, and real-world community around how children actually grow. We are at the very beginning: a 3000 sq ft Lab space, a clear philosophy, and three months to prove the concept.
You will not be a passive observer. You will be a founding contributor; the person who ran the first parent circles, built the first content, designed the first kit, or mapped the first regulatory path. The work is real, the stakes are real, and so is the credit.
What you will work on
We are building six foundational blocks this summer. Each intern will own one primary area and contribute across others.
01 The Lab
– Set up and run the physical Lab space for the first cohort of families
– Design the daily environment: materials, layout, session flow, grounded in the Neighbourhood methodology
– Facilitate and document the first parent circles and playschool pilot sessions
– Organize parent circles, manage on ground operations and process feedback to improve
02 Content & brand
– Build the content engine from scratch: short-form video, written guides, social presence
– Translate complex child development research into formats parents actually want to read at 6am
– Document everything happening in the Lab; every session is a content opportunity
03 Product & AI
– Research and map what the Neighbourhood app needs to do in its first version
– Help design the AI co-pilot: what questions do parents actually ask, and what does a good answer look like?
– Prototype the parenting dashboard: milestones, kits, daily guidance, and test it with real families
04 Curriculum & pedagogy
– Research and synthesise the best of Montessori, Reggio, RIE, and developmental science into the Neighbourhood methodology
– Draft the first version of the Neighbourhood Pedagogy Framework; the document that will train every future educator
– Design age-appropriate activity guides for the 0–3 yrs and 3–6 yrs developmental stages
05 Physical products & kits
– Research and curate the first Neighbourhood development kit (0-18 & 18-24 month age bands)
– Source sustainable, non-toxic materials from Indian and global suppliers
– Build the kit unboxing and digital companion experience; the moment a parent receives a kit should feel intentional
06 Operations & growth
– Map the path for running a play school in Gurgaon; we already have the location set in Sector – 67 Gurugram
– Build the founding membership model: pricing, packaging, onboarding, retention
– Run outreach to the first 500 families; not marketing, relationship-building
Who we are looking for
We are not looking for a specific background. We are looking for a specific kind of person.
– You think from first principles and get uncomfortable with answers that are just 'how it is done'
– You take ownership without being chased; if something is unclear, you ask once and then move
– You are genuinely curious about children, learning, and what it means to build something good
– You write clearly. Not formally, clearly! You can explain a complex idea in plain language
– You are comfortable with ambiguity. We do not have all the answers. That is the point
What you get
– A stipend of ₹15,000 per month plus bonus/ perks depending on role and fit
– Full ownership of a meaningful workstream; your name on the output, not buried in a footnote
– A pre-PPO conversation for exceptional interns; we are building a team and we are looking at this cohort first
– Access to every conversation about the business: strategy, fundraising, product decisions; nothing is off-limits
– A reference that means something. We will tell the truth about what you did.
Practicalities
– June - Aug, 2026 (8 weeks – 12 weeks). Extensions possible for the right fit.
– Our Lab space in Gurugram - location shared on selection. In-person, five days a week plus the 1st and the 3rd Saturdays.
– 8am – 5pm with flexibility on either side. Some weekend Lab sessions will be required. We try to close everything by 5 pm so that folks have time to rest, reset and come back stronger
– You will work directly with the founders. There is no middle layer.
How to apply
Send us three things, nothing more, nothing less:
– A short note (200–300 words) word cover letter sharing the applicant's idea of the internship, your expectations and promise covering which of the six blocks you want to own, and why you specifically are the right person for it. Not why you are interested in The Neighbourhood in general; why you, for that block.
– One piece of work you are genuinely proud of. It can be anything: a paper, a project, a side venture, something you built or wrote or fixed. No particular format. Just something that shows us how you think.
– You CV (honestly yours)

Applications close: May 31st, 2026. We review on a rolling basis and will move fast.
We are building something we believe in. If that is the kind of work you want to do this summer, we would like to meet you.
