The first 150 MW is under execution across AP and Telangana, anchored by marquee C&I customers across pharmaceutical, manufacturing, and process industries. Fractal is rapidly scaling its project pipeline across India.
Role Overview
As GM – Design, you will own the full design engineering function for Fractal Energy’s solar open access portfolio, including feasibility inputs, concept design, detailed engineering, drawings, technical specifications, BOQs, and as-built design support. You will be the technical anchor between business development, project execution, procurement, and site teams, ensuring every project is designed for constructability, performance, compliance, and cost efficiency.
This is a hands-on role for someone who can review layouts, challenge assumptions, resolve site constraints, and close design issues fast.
Scope of ownership:
· Design Engineering: Design from concept through IFC release and as-built closure. Ensure designs optimize yield, constructability, safety, cost and O&M practicality.
· Connectivity, Evacuation & Compliance: Ensure designs comply with open access requirements, utility standards, statutory codes, and client specifications. Coordinate design inputs that affect DISCOM /TRANSCO/SLDC/CEIG approvals and grid synchronisation readiness.
· Coordination and support across Teams: Coordinate across teams & resolve design clashes, site constraints, vendor deviations, and change requests quickly. Support site teams with RFIs, technical clarifications, redline drawings, and design revisions.
· BOQ, Estimation & Value Engineering: BOQ preparation & technical specifications. Drive value engineering to reduce cost without compromising safety, performance, or standards.
· Vendor & Consultant Management: Evaluate vendor drawings, datasheets, calculations, and design submissions. Coordinate with consultants, OEMs, and third-party reviewers where applicable.
· Documentation & Design Governance: Maintain design control, establish design standards, templates, and best practices for the project portfolio.
Ideal Candidate Profile
Must-Have
· 10+ years of experience in solar design in utility-scale.
· Hands-on experience in detailed engineering, plant layouts, SLDs, cable sizing, equipment sizing, evacuation systems, and BOQ preparation.
· Strong working knowledge of Arka, AutoCAD and solar design tools; familiarity with ETAP, Civil 3D, STAAD Pro, PVsyst, or equivalent tools is a strong advantage.
· Good understanding of module mounting structures, tracker structures, switchyard interfaces, and project execution constraints.
· Ability to coordinate across design, procurement, and project execution teams under tight timelines.
· Working knowledge of open access project requirements, connectivity conditions, evacuation interfaces, and related statutory approval processes.
Good-to-Have
· Experience in design support for BESS-integrated or hybrid renewable projects.
· Familiarity with Telangana and Andhra Pradesh utility / evacuation processes.
· Experience in engineering change management and value engineering.
