Job Title – General Manager – Coal Gasification

Position Overview
New Era Cleantech Solution Pvt Ltd (NECS) is developing a large-scale coal-to-chemicals and coal-to-fertilizers complex based on advanced coal gasification technology. The General Manager – Coal Gasification will be responsible for the successful engineering, commissioning, startup, operation, optimization, and performance management of the coal gasification facility and associated syngas generation systems.
The position requires a highly experienced professional with strong expertise in coal gasification technologies, syngas production, plant operations, project execution, process safety, and multidisciplinary team leadership.
Key Responsibilities
Strategic Leadership
- Provide technical leadership for gasification technology selection, process optimization, and operational excellence.
- Develop long-term plans for capacity enhancement, efficiency improvement, and sustainability initiatives.
- Support management in technology evaluation, investment decisions, and business planning.
- Lead the development and implementation of coal gasification operations in alignment with company objectives.
Project Execution & Commissioning
- Coordinate with technology licensors, EPC contractors, consultants, and equipment suppliers.
- Review process packages, engineering deliverables, PFDs, P&IDs, HAZOP studies, and commissioning plans.
- Ensure timely completion of project milestones related to gasification and syngas generation facilities.
- Lead pre-commissioning, commissioning, startup, and performance guarantee tests.
Plant Operations
- Manage day-to-day operation of coal gasification units and associated utilities.
- Ensure stable production of syngas meeting downstream requirements for ammonia, urea, methanol, MEG, or other chemical units.
- Monitor key performance indicators such as:
- Coal consumption
- Oxygen consumption
- Carbon conversion efficiency
- Cold gas efficiency
- Syngas quality
- Plant availability and reliability
- Drive continuous improvement initiatives to maximize operational efficiency.
Process Optimization
- Identify opportunities to improve gasifier performance and reduce operating costs.
- Optimize coal preparation, oxygen utilization, slag handling, and syngas cooling systems.
- Analyze process data and implement corrective actions to improve throughput and energy efficiency.
- Benchmark plant performance against global best practices.
Safety, Health & Environment
- Ensure strict compliance with process safety management systems.
- Lead HAZOP, risk assessment, incident investigation, and management of change programs.
- Promote a strong safety culture across the gasification complex.
- Ensure compliance with statutory environmental regulations and emission standards.
Reliability & Maintenance
- Work closely with maintenance teams to improve equipment reliability and plant uptime.
- Develop preventive and predictive maintenance strategies.
- Monitor critical rotating and static equipment performance.
- Support turnaround planning and execution.
Team Development
- Build and mentor a high-performing team of engineers, operators, and supervisors.
- Develop competency frameworks and training programs.
- Foster a culture of accountability, innovation, and continuous learning.
Stakeholder Management
- Interface with technology licensors, government agencies, regulatory authorities, and industry associations.
- Support discussions with investors, lenders, and strategic partners on technical matters.
- Represent NECS in technical forums and industry conferences.
Qualification: Bachelor’s degree in chemical engineering or mechanical engineering. Postgraduate qualifications in Process Engineering, Energy Management, or Business Management will be an advantage
