Hiring: General Manager HR | Apparel and Lifestyle brand | Mumbai
We are partnering with a leading player in the leading apparel and lifestyle brand in India to hire a General Manager - HR to be based in Mumbai.
Our client is a fully integrated apparel company operating across design, manufacturing, branding, and retail, and has also demonstrated consistent growth, with revenues crossing ₹1,000 crore and strong profitability metrics.
The HR Generalist will be responsible for managing day-to-day HR operations, including employee lifecycle management, payroll processing, statutory compliance, labour law matters, and HR reporting. The role requires a hands-on professional who can ensure smooth HR functioning while maintaining compliance and supporting business needs.
Key Responsibilities:
HR Operations
- Manage end-to-end employee lifecycle (onboarding to exit)
- Maintain employee records and HR documentation
- Implement HR policies and ensure adherence across the organization
Payroll Management
- Handle end-to-end payroll processing with accuracy and timeliness
- Validate attendance, leaves, incentives, and deductions
- Coordinate with finance for salary disbursement and payroll reconciliation
Statutory Compliance
- Ensure compliance with PF, ESIC, Professional Tax, Gratuity, Bonus, and other labour laws
- Manage statutory filings, returns, and remittances
- Liaise with government authorities for audits and inspections
Labour Law & Legal
- Handle labour court cases, legal notices, and documentation
- Coordinate with legal advisors on ongoing cases
- Support disciplinary actions and employee grievance handling
Stakeholder Management
- Collaborate closely with the CFO and leadership team on HR strategy and compliance matters
- Act as a trusted advisor to business leaders on HR-related issues
- Manage external vendors and consultants related to HR and compliance
MIS & Reporting
- Prepare HR MIS reports and dashboards
- Analyze HR and payroll data using Excel (VLOOKUP, Pivot Tables)
- Track compliance and provide insights to management
Employee Relations
- Act as a point of contact for employee queries and concerns
- Support engagement initiatives and maintain a positive work environment
Ideal Candidate:
- MBA in HR or the relevant qualification
- 15–20 years of relevant experience in driving and expanding business operations, with a strong track record of scaling businesses effectively
- Proven success in building high-value partnerships that deliver measurable revenue growth and cost efficiencies
- Demonstrated experience in owning and managing P&L, with a strong focus on profitability and financial performance
- Experience in building, expanding, and leading high-performing teams, with the ability to create scalable organizational structures
- Strong leadership managing large, dispersed retail teams
- Expertise in high-volume hiring, payroll, and compliance
- Ability to handle employee relations and disciplinary matters
- Strong Excel and data analytics skills (MIS, dashboards, attrition, productivity)
- Effective stakeholder management across stores and corporate teams
- High execution ability in a fast-paced, target-driven retail environment
