General Manager – Projects (Transmission Lines & Substations)

Position Summary
We are seeking an accomplished and results-driven General Manager – Projects with 18+ years of extensive experience in executing Transmission Line and Substation projects within the Renewable Energy sector. The ideal candidate will possess strong leadership capabilities, deep technical expertise, and proven experience in managing EHV transmission infrastructure projects from project initiation through commissioning while ensuring safety, quality, budget, and schedule compliance.
The role demands strategic planning, stakeholder management, resource optimization, and successful execution of multiple transmission and substation projects across India.
Key ResponsibilitiesProject Management
- Lead end-to-end execution of Transmission Line (33kV to 765kV) and Substation (AIS/GIS) projects.
- Develop project execution strategies, schedules, and resource plans to ensure timely project completion.
- Monitor project progress against milestones, budgets, and contractual obligations.
- Ensure successful commissioning and project handover within the agreed timelines.
Engineering & Technical Leadership
- Review engineering designs, BOQs, technical specifications, and project drawings.
- Coordinate with engineering teams for design optimization and technical approvals.
- Provide technical guidance on transmission line routing, tower erection, stringing, foundations, substations, and associated systems.
- Ensure compliance with statutory regulations, client specifications, and industry standards.
Client & Stakeholder Management
- Serve as the primary interface with clients, consultants, utilities, contractors, and government authorities.
- Attend review meetings and present project progress, risks, and mitigation strategies.
- Maintain excellent client relationships and ensure customer satisfaction throughout project execution.
Commercial & Contract Management
- Review EPC contracts and monitor contractual obligations.
- Evaluate subcontractor performance and approve project billing.
- Manage project budgets, cost control, claims, variations, and change orders.
- Ensure effective procurement planning and coordination with supply chain teams.
Team Leadership
- Lead multidisciplinary teams including Project Managers, Site Engineers, QA/QC, Planning, Procurement, Safety, and Construction personnel.
- Mentor and develop high-performing project teams.
- Foster a culture of accountability, collaboration, and continuous improvement.
Planning & Coordination
- Coordinate engineering, procurement, logistics, and construction activities.
- Monitor project schedules using Primavera P6 and/or Microsoft Project.
- Identify project risks and implement effective mitigation plans.
Safety, Quality & Compliance
- Ensure strict adherence to HSE policies and zero-harm safety culture.
- Implement quality assurance and quality control systems.
- Ensure compliance with ISO standards, electrical safety regulations, and statutory requirements.
Reporting
- Prepare monthly project status reports, management dashboards, and progress presentations.
- Report project KPIs including cost, schedule, productivity, quality, and safety metrics to senior management.
Required Qualifications
- Bachelor's Degree in Electrical Engineering (Mandatory).
- Master's Degree/MBA in Project Management is preferred.
- PMP/Prince2 certification will be an added advantage.
Experience
- Minimum 18 years of experience in Power Transmission & Distribution projects.
- Minimum 8–10 years in senior leadership/project management roles.
- Proven experience in Renewable Energy evacuation infrastructure.
- Experience handling multiple EPC transmission line and substation projects simultaneously.
- Hands-on experience in projects ranging from 33kV to 765kV Transmission Lines and Substations.

Preferred Candidate Profile
- Strong experience in EPC companies executing Renewable Energy transmission infrastructure.
- Excellent knowledge of CEA, IS, IEC, and utility standards.
- Experience working with developers such as NTPC, SECI, PGCIL, JSW, Adani, Tata Power, Greenko, ReNew, and other renewable energy companies will be preferred.
- Willingness to travel extensively to project locations across India.
