Pay Grade: 12 - $86,786.59 - $97,634.91 annual salary


Role:

Responsible for overseeing Gather FCU's Accounting Department, this role ensures the establishment and maintenance of accounting principles, practices, and procedures to manage fiscal records and financial reporting. This includes general and property accounting, cost accounting, and budgetary control. The position involves evaluating operational results against costs, budgets, policies, and trends, identifying opportunities for improvement, and enhancing profitability. Responsible for ensuring the fair measurement and presentation of financial results in compliance with GAAP, this role formulates and administers approved accounting practices across the organization to produce accurate financial reports and provide reliable data essential for effective operational control. 


Essential Functions:

Responsible for preparing accurate and timely financial statements, including all cash flow statements, income statements, balance sheets, and monthly budget variance reports for management and the Board of Directors. Prepares all monthly, quarterly, and annual reports, including the quarterly call report, monthly interest margin report, ratio reports, and loan delinquency reports. Oversees the preparation of the annual report, assists in the annual budget process, and compiles collateral reports for the Federal Home Loan Bank. Ensures compliance with all reporting requirements, including those mandated by NCUA, CUNA, FRB, IRS, and management.

Assists in the analysis of the organization's Balance Sheet providing quarterly, and yearly comparisons and trends. Monitors key balance sheet ratios and suggests strategies to senior management for maintaining a healthy balance sheet

Responsible for maintaining accuracy, quality and progress of the Accounting department's work. Assigns, directs, coordinates, and reviews duties and function of staff personnel. Maintains current and thorough knowledge of Federal, State, and Accounting regulations, compliance policies and procedures.

Supervises, trains, assigns, and evaluates personnel in the Accounting Department. Develops and continually updates the Accounting Procedural and Training Manuals. Participates in the selection process, recommends the hiring of applicants, and the change in status or termination of employees.

Verifies all wire activities and maintains proper BSA documentation and compliance with the Wire Transfer Policy. Executes investment wires. Ensures proper control and maintenance of all investment documents.

Responsible for maintaining fixed asset records, depreciation schedules and all accrual entries for the credit union. Prepares special financial schedules and performs other related duties or projects as assigned.

Review the status of cash account reconciliations weekly; balance sheet reconciliations monthly and direct research/corrections necessary. Reviews for reasonableness to the budget and ensures timely payment of the Credit Union’s expenses. Administers the Corporate credit card program.

Ensures the proper and timely filing of the State Annual Uniform Unclaimed Properties reports as specified by statute. Monitors and follows up on Dormant accounts.

Responds to staff and members having complaints and/or inquiries and initiates any corrective measures.

Ensures that all reports, records, and other confidential items in the Accounting Department are cleared and properly secured in their specified locations before leaving the premises each day. Ensures adequate supply of all materials used by the Accounting Department is available and prepares necessary replenishment requisitions. Ensures the safety and cleanliness of the department. Assumes accountability in cybersecurity and data protection. Recommends and maintain records for retention and destruction as required by NCUA. 


Must comply with all company policies and procedures, applicable laws and regulations, including but not limited to, the Bank Secrecy Act, the Patriot Act, and the Office of Foreign Assets Control. Requirements

Experience

Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, Economics with relevant prior work experience. A CPA or MBA is preferred. 10+ years of progressive experience in financial management, accounting, and reporting. Advanced expertise in preparing financial statements, budgets, and regulatory filings, ensuring compliance with GAAP and other industry standards. Must have experience leading accounting teams, implementing internal controls, and providing strategic financial guidance to senior leadership. 


Interpersonal Skills

A significant level of trust and diplomacy is required to be an effective subject matter expert in the position. In-depth dialogues, conversations and explanations with members, direct and indirect reports and outside vendors of a sensitive and/or highly confidential nature is a normal part of the day-to-day experience. Communications can involve motivating, influencing, educating and/or advising others on matters of significance. 


Other Skills

Knowledge of accounting principles generally accepted in the United States of America, basic characteristics of financial assets and liabilities, and basic statistical analysis. Ability to work standard personal computers (including peripheral equipment), ten-key calculator, typing 30-40 words per minute, view a computer terminal for varying periods of time, and to learn and retain the proper use of office equipment, including facsimile machines and photocopies. Must be able to work with various PC software. Strong ability to read, analyze and interpret financial reports and legal documents; performs complex calculations; effectively researches, analyzes and evaluates information to make decisions, solve problems and achieve goals; strong project management skills desired. 


Physical Requirements

Perform primarily sedentary work with limited physical exertion and occasional lifting of up to 20 lbs. Must be capable of climbing/descending stairs in emergency situation. Must be able to operate routine office equipment including telephone, copier, facsimile, and calculator. Must be able to routinely perform work on computer for an average of 6-8 hours per day. May require flexibility to work beyond normal scheduled hours, including holidays, weekends, and overtime, as needed to meet organizational deadline and objectives. Must by capable of regular, reliable and timely attendance. 


Working Conditions

Must be able to routinely perform work indoors in climate-controlled shared work area with moderate noise.
