About the role

The Mary Sue is searching for freelance writers to join our team! We're looking for journalists/writers who get our intersectional feminist perspective and have significant knowledge of, and passion for, movies, TV, geek culture, politics, internet culture, The Discourse™, fandom, weird internet memes, and more! You should especially be plugged into the 24/7 news cycle. Do you have fifteen notifications pop onto your phone from a variety of sources whenever something happens in your favorite fandom? We want to hear from you! We cover a wide variety of subjects, with approaches varying from news and opinion articles to evergreen lists and more. On a daily basis, you'll have the opportunity to choose from a wide range of pre-approved topics and/or pitch your own story ideas, working alongside the rest of our freelance and full-time team members in a collaborative atmosphere. We're particularly, but not exclusively, looking for writers with expertise in: Thriller and horror TV & movies Comedy movies/shows Reality shows Family friendly TV What are we looking for in a prospective freelance writer? Someone who's proud to be called a feminist and a geek A wide range of pop culture interests Someone with their finger on the pulse of the fandom conversation The ability to write quickly and accurately Someone eager to learn and incorporate feedback to build their writing skills Familiarity with WordPress/blogging platforms A high level of English language fluency What do we want in addition to your resume? At least two links to samples of your writing. Links to your personal website/portfolio/blog, podcasts/videos, and/or any public social media accounts you would like to share. Our rates vary right along with the content, ranging from $15 to $65 depending on the length and type of story. Pay rate may vary based on location for international candidates.
