About The Role
As a Board Game Designer Intern at Kheeladi, you will have the opportunity to immerse yourself in the creative process of game development. This internship is designed for passionate individuals interested in the art and science of game design, particularly in the tabletop genre. You will be responsible for conceptualizing, prototyping, and refining game mechanics, themes, and rules, working closely with a talented team of designers, illustrators, and playtesters. The role offers a comprehensive learning experience, allowing you to develop practical skills in game design, user testing, and project management. Strong performers may be considered for full-time roles at the conclusion of the internship, providing a pathway to a career in the gaming industry.
Qualifications
Candidates should possess a strong passion for tabletop gaming and a keen interest in game design principles. While a bachelor’s degree in Game Design, Product Design, Creative Writing, Psychology, or related fields is preferred, it is not mandatory. Essential qualifications include a solid understanding of game mechanics, player engagement strategies, and systems balancing. Experience in designing strategy, card, party, educational, or family games is highly valued. Candidates must demonstrate excellent problem-solving and creative thinking skills, along with the ability to prototype quickly and iterate based on feedback. Strong communication skills and a collaborative mindset are also important for success in this role.
Responsibilities
- Design original board game concepts, including mechanics, themes, and rule systems that are innovative and engaging.
- Develop gameplay loops that are balanced, easy to learn, and provide a compelling experience for players.
- Create prototypes utilizing both physical and digital tools to visualize and test game ideas.
- Conduct playtesting sessions, analyze feedback, and implement improvements to enhance gameplay quality.
- Write clear, concise, and comprehensive game rules, instructions, and design documentation for internal and external use.
- Research market trends, analyze competitor products, and understand player preferences to inform design decisions.
- Balance game economies, difficulty progression, and replayability to ensure a satisfying player experience.
- Participate in brainstorming sessions for new product ideas, expansions, and innovative gameplay features.
