About the Role
We are looking for an experienced Functional Safety Lead to drive functional safety activities across automotive embedded systems and ensure compliance with ISO 26262.
The ideal candidate will be a strong technical leader with hands-on experience in safety analysis, safety requirements, system architecture, and automotive embedded hardware/software. The role involves working closely with engineering, operations, customers, and cross-functional teams to develop and maintain the complete functional safety lifecycle and safety case.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead and manage all Functional Safety activities for assigned automotive projects.
- Own and drive the Safety Case in accordance with ISO 26262.
- Define, capture, decompose, and maintain functional and technical safety requirements.
- Perform and guide safety analyses including:
- HARA (Hazard Analysis and Risk Assessment)
- FMEA / FMECA
- FTA – Qualitative & Quantitative
- FMEDA – Hardware Safety Analysis
- Provide functional safety guidance to system, hardware, and software engineering teams.
- Support development of safe system architectures covering HW and SW.
- Translate customer safety requirements into clear product and system safety requirements.
- Communicate functional safety objectives, processes, and lifecycle activities to engineering teams.
- Support customer discussions, RFQ/quotation activities, and technical proposals related to functional safety.
- Support implementation and continuous improvement of functional safety processes and safety culture.
- Provide guidance to operations and project teams in accordance with ISO 26262 Part 7.
- Promote industry best practices and support integration of functional safety standards into corporate processes.
- Evaluate emerging automotive safety technologies and perform competitive/technical analysis.
- Mentor and provide technical guidance to junior and mid-level engineers.
- Coordinate with cross-functional teams to ensure timely completion of safety deliverables.
Required Qualifications & Experience
- Bachelor's degree in Electrical, Electronics, Computer, Software, or Systems Engineering (BSEE/BSCE/BSSE or equivalent).
- 10+ years of overall automotive engineering experience, preferably in embedded systems.
- Minimum 2+ years of hands-on Functional Safety / ISO 26262 experience.
- Strong automotive embedded hardware and software development experience.
- Strong experience in:
- ISO 26262 Functional Safety lifecycle
- Safety requirements definition and decomposition
- HARA
- FMEA
- FTA
- FMEDA
- System safety architecture
- Requirements engineering and systems engineering methodologies
- Experience with functional safety analysis tools such as Medini Analyze is highly desirable.
- Strong understanding of automotive embedded systems and safety-critical product development.
- Excellent technical communication, problem-solving, stakeholder-management, and project-management skills.
Preferred Qualifications
- FSCAE – Functional Safety Certified Automotive Engineer certification from TÜV NORD or equivalent.
- Master's degree (M.Sc./M.E./M.Tech) in an engineering discipline.
- Experience working directly with automotive OEMs/Tier-1 customers.
- Experience leading functional safety activities across complete product development lifecycles.
