About the role

Funcom Games is seeking a passionate Environment Art Intern to join our development team in Bucharest, Romania. As an Environment Art Intern, you will contribute to creating game-ready art environments while checking optimal performance within the project. We welcome both specialists in specific areas of environmental art and well-rounded generalists. No prior experience? No problem! What matters most is your artistic talent and creative spark! We're looking for passionate individuals with a standout portfolio that showcases their best work. How you can have an impact in your position: Assist in creating new environments and variations of existing ones, including props, foliage, and related assets, while ensuring proper collision and testing. Support level design by working with modular block outs and implementing finished assets, including set dressing for scenes. Identify and resolve bugs while optimizing game assets to meet performance and technical requirements. Balance artistic vision with technical constraints, adhering to technical budgets and industry standards to ensure high-quality execution. Working effectively with designers, artists, and developers. Stay up to date with best practices and next-gen industry standards to continuously enhance workflows and asset quality. We are looking for you to have: A strong willingness to learn and a desire to continuously improve your skills in Environment Art. Basic understanding of 3D art fundamentals, including modeling, materials, textures, lighting, modularity, technical constraints, and game limitations. Familiarity with 3D software such as Blender, 3ds Max, Autodesk Maya, Substance Suite, Terrain Generation tools, or similar, with a keen eagerness to expand your expertise. Strong communication and time management skills. Ability to work efficiently within deadlines. Creativity & artistic vision Bachelor's degree in a related field or currently pursuing a Master's degree. In addition, ideally, you might also have: Familiarity with Unreal Engine 5 or Unity. Experience working with modular systems. A strong passion for gaming and game development beyond just art.
