Full-Stack Developer (Telegram Mini App – Wellness Game)
It’s a 3+ Months contract (extension possible depending on the performance)
Overview
Our client is rebuilding and rearchitecting an existing Telegram Mini App wellness game from prototype to production. This is not a greenfield project — a working prototype exists, and your role will be to refactor, harden, and scale it into a secure, maintainable, production-grade system.
You will work as a solo full-stack developer, collaborating closely with a non-technical founder, a fractional CTO, and specialist contractors (game designer, narrative writer, and artist). This is not a frontend-only or backend-only role — you will own both sides of the system.
Because this is a health-oriented product involving user data, security must be treated as a first-class concern, not an afterthought.
What You’ll Do
- Re-architect and refactor an existing prototype into a production-ready system
- Own both backend and frontend development
- Build and maintain a Python async backend (e.g., FastAPI)
- Develop interactive 2D gameplay experiences using Phaser 3 (or similar)
- Design and maintain REST APIs
- Improve performance, maintainability, and scalability
- Implement secure authentication and data handling practices
- Work autonomously while aligning with product direction
- Collaborate with non-technical stakeholders (game designer, writer, founder)
- Contribute to architectural decisions and technical roadmap
Must Have
Technical Skills
- Python backend experience – FastAPI or equivalent async framework
- Strong understanding of REST API design
- Phaser 3 (or similar 2D game engine) – building interactive canvas-based experiences
- Docker – containerization and docker-compose for local development
- Postgres or MongoDB – schema design, indexing, performance considerations
- Strong security awareness, including:
- HMAC authentication
- CORS configuration
- Input validation
- OAuth2 flows
- 2–4+ years of professional experience
- Able to own a codebase
- Make architectural decisions
- Work beyond just implementing tickets
- Comfortable working autonomously
- Comfortable using AI development tools (e.g., ClaudeCode, Codex) productively and critically — not blindly
Communication & Working Style
- Good communication skills
- Comfortable collaborating with non-technical stakeholders
- Able to explain technical trade-offs clearly
- Comfortable working UK hours
- Self-directed and proactive
Good to Have
- Interest in health, wellness, or gamification
- Experience with the Telegram Bot API or Telegram Mini Apps
- Experience integrating LLMs (e.g., OpenAI APIs, Gemini, LangChain)
- Redis, task queues, background job scheduling
- CI/CD pipelines and cloud deployment (GCP, AWS)
- Experience with isometric or 2D game development (tilemaps, sprite animation)
