About FuelBuddy
FuelBuddy is a B2B fuel delivery company scaling automated fuel logistics across the UAE, Mozambique, Zambia, Zimbabwe, and Nigeria.
We run a large automated bowser fleet that delivers fuel directly to enterprise customers across logistics, retail, construction, and industrial sectors, replacing the traditional petrol-station model with an on-demand, IoT-driven alternative that is measurably faster, safer, and more accountable for the businesses that depend on it.
Our international tech team is building the software platform that powers this operation end-to-end from the CRM and ERP that handle sales and finance, to the dispatch engine that plans daily deliveries, to the IoT automation running on the bowsers themselves, to the customer and operations dashboards that enterprises and our own teams use every day.
The international stack is built on
Vue 3, Node.js/Fastify, PostgreSQL, Hasura GraphQL, ERPNext (Frappe), and GCP, with BigQuery powering cross-market analytics.
You will ship software that directly moves fuel. Every bug has a truck and a customer attached to it, and every feature you ship changes how a business somewhere in the UAE or Africa gets through its day.
Role Summary
You will be the senior-most hands-on engineer in the Ops & CX pod, owning the architecture, code quality, and delivery velocity of the customer-facing and operations-facing applications that run FuelBuddy's international business.
These applications span web and mobile, and they are the systems that dispatchers, drivers, and enterprise customers use every day across the UAE and Africa.
This is a true tech-lead role : you will write production code, review every significant PR, mentor two to three engineers, partner directly with the Head of Technology on architectural decisions, and bring your own informed point of view on how the platform should evolve.
What Will You Own
You will own the technical roadmap of the operations dashboard, the B2B customer dashboard, and the mobile applications used by drivers and field teams.
The scope includes customer migration, wallet and statement-of-account flows, dispatch planning, permit management, and the upcoming dispatch intelligence module.
You will drive engineering standards code review culture, testing discipline, observability, and incident response and act as the technical handover point for the incoming Project Manager based in Dubai.
Must-have Skills
- Strong production experience with Vue 3 (Composition API) and Node.js / Fastify
- Production experience with PostgreSQL and Hasura GraphQL
- Strong grasp of TypeScript across both frontend and backend
- Hands-on experience building and shipping production mobile applications for iOS and Android, ideally with React Native
- DevOps and Kubernetes fluency you understand container orchestration, deployments, services, ingress, and have run production workloads on K8s
- AI-driven development paradigms used in a production environment, not just experimented with you have shipped real code with AI assistance and have a point of view on how to do it well
- Proven track record of leading a development team and delivering an enterprise-ready product end-to-end
- Have shipped and operated systems in production at scale, led code reviews for a team of three or more, and are comfortable debugging distributed systems across services
Good To Have
- Terraform or other infrastructure-as-code tooling
- Familiarity with self-hosted GitLab CI/CD (our current environment, but we are open to your views on the toolchain)
- GCP (Cloud Run, Cloud SQL, Pub/Sub)
- Real-time systems (WebSockets, server-sent events)
- IoT-adjacent applications
- Multi-tenant or multi-country software
- Exposure to fleet management, logistics, or energy domains
What Success Looks Like In 12 Months
The UAE customer dashboard migration is fully complete with zero customer-reported regressions, dispatch planning has moved from testing to production across all UAE depots, and the pod is shipping on a predictable two-week cadence with measurable improvements in PR cycle time and incident MTTR.
Benefits & perks Code for every engineer : Every engineer on the team gets a seat on Anthropic's Claude for Teams from day one, including Claude Code in the terminal. We invest in tooling that makes you more effective, not just busier and we expect you to use it well.
