Job details:
About Spacey Science Spacey Science is an AI-powered education platform designed to help children explore space through intelligent tutoring, interactive simulations, and game-based learning. Our goal is to redefine how the next generation learns. If you want to experience what it actually feels like to build the face of a real AI product inside a fast-moving startup, this is the place.
This is an unpaid, voluntary internship. We offer something many early-career developers struggle to find:
- Real Product Ownership: You will not be fetching coffee; you will be designing and shipping interactive user interfaces.
- Creative Frontend Experience: Hands-on work bridging the gap between clean UI/UX design and complex technical implementation.
- Direct Mentorship: Collaboration with founders and senior engineers.
- Career Acceleration: A strong reference, a production-grade portfolio piece featuring advanced web graphics, and potential fast-track consideration for future paid roles as we scale.
Please apply only if gaining high-impact experience is your current priority.
The Role You will help design and build the visual, interactive core of our learning platform. Children should feel like they are exploring the universe, not reading static slides. Expect responsibility early. Depending on your strengths, you will focus on:
- Clean UI/UX Design & Implementation: Designing intuitive, beautiful interfaces and building them pixel-perfectly using React and Tailwind CSS.
- Dynamic Motion Graphics: Bringing the platform to life using your motion graphics library of choice (e.g., Framer Motion, GSAP).
- Interactive Space Simulations: Implementing complex visual elements using Three.js, LottieFiles, or custom SVG animations to keep young learners engaged.
What We’re Looking For We value creative builders. Raw talent and a stunning portfolio beat long CVs here. Strong candidates typically show:
- An excellent eye for clean, modern UI/UX design. You do not just write the code; you care deeply about how it looks and feels.
- Strong proficiency in React and Tailwind CSS.
- Proven ability to implement web animations (using motion libraries, LottieFiles, or complex SVG manipulation).
- Comfort with modern web fundamentals (HTML, CSS, JavaScript or TypeScript).
- The ability to work independently (proactive, not reactive).
Bonus Points (Not Required but Highly Valued):
- Experience with 3D web graphics (Three.js or React Three Fiber) – an absolute perfect fit for our space theme!
- An understanding of web accessibility standards (a11y) to ensure our platform is usable by all children.
- Experience using design tools like Figma.
Who Should Apply This role is ideal for someone who:
- Wants real startup experience.
- Learns fast and enjoys solving hard design and engineering problems.
- Wants to build things that matter. This is not the right role if you are looking for a low-responsibility, tick-box internship.
Selection Process We intentionally keep our hiring bar high to build a small but exceptional team.
- Application: Send your CV and a link to your Portfolio and/or GitHub. We want to see the UI/UX you have designed and the code you have written.
- The Mission: Shortlisted candidates will receive a Technical Frontend Challenge designed to reflect real product scenarios (e.g., building and animating a specific React component).
- Interview: A code and portfolio walkthrough, plus a culture chat.
