Accounting & Office Manager Job Description
About Frolic
Building on our founders' research at the MIT Center for Real Estate, we are creating pocket-communities of 6–20 homes owned collectively via the Frolic Community cooperative housing model, which is designed to bring homeownership within reach for generational renters and first-time home buyers. We build our projects in partnership with single-family homeowners who have greater development potential on their land and who want to age in place, house their communities, and shape the future of their neighborhoods. We have 6 projects in development and over 30 in our pipeline, and are looking for fellow dreamers with acumen to join our team.

About the Role
We are seeking a detail-oriented and dependable Accounting & Office Manager to support Frolic's day-to-day financial operations across the company and its development entity LLCs. Reporting to the Controller, this role will own core accounting functions — accounts payable, accounts receivable, invoice processing, and month-end support — while also keeping the office running smoothly. This is a hands-on role well suited for someone who takes pride in accurate, timely work, thrives in a dynamic small-team environment, and is excited to grow with a mission-driven company reshaping how housing gets built.
Working here, you will:
• Process and code incoming invoices across multiple entities, ensuring correct GL categorization and timely entry into Bill.com and accounting systems.
• Manage accounts payable workflows — tracking due dates, preparing weekly payables reports for controller review, and coordinating payment runs following CFO approval.
• Support accounts receivable functions including invoicing, payment tracking, and follow-up on outstanding balances.
• Assist with month-end close activities including bank reconciliations, accrual entries, and financial data review.
• Maintain organized, audit-ready records of all financial transactions across Frolic Community Inc. and its Development Entity LLCs.
• Coordinate with the Controller on reporting for development managers and project-level financial summaries.
• Liaise with vendors and payees on invoice corrections, new payee onboarding (W-9s, payment setup), and general inquiries.
• Support payroll coordination, expense reporting, and other finance-adjacent administrative tasks as needed.
• Manage general office operations including supply ordering, vendor coordination, mail handling, and maintaining a productive in-office environment.
• Provide ad hoc administrative support to leadership and fill gaps as needed — this is a startup, and all hands on deck is part of the culture.
About You
You are organized, accurate, and reliable. You take satisfaction in keeping the numbers clean and the office running smoothly, and you're comfortable working across accounting tasks without needing a lot of hand-holding. You communicate clearly, follow up proactively, and bring a calm, professional presence to a fast-moving team. You care about the mission — helping more people access homeownership — and you want to do meaningful work at a company where your contributions are visible and valued.
Expected qualifications for successful candidates include:
• 3–5+ years of experience in accounting, bookkeeping, or a closely related finance role.
• Solid working knowledge of AP, AR, bank reconciliations, and general ledger coding.
• Hands-on experience with accounting software (QuickBooks, Xero, or similar) and bill payment platforms such as Bill.com.
• High proficiency in Excel/Google Sheets and the broader Google Workspace or Microsoft 365 suite.
• Strong attention to detail and a track record of accurate, timely work.
• Ability to manage multiple entities and priorities simultaneously without losing track of details.
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills — comfortable coordinating with vendors, team members, and leadership alike.
• Comfort working in a small, fast-paced, entrepreneurial environment where roles evolve and initiative is rewarded.
• Must be authorized to work in the United States.
Additional attractive qualities:
• Associate's or Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Business, Finance, or a related field.
• Experience supporting a Controller or CFO in a multi-entity or real estate development environment.
• Familiarity with project-level accounting or cost tracking for development or construction projects.
• Experience with HR-adjacent functions such as payroll processing or onboarding coordination.
• People who like to play, know themselves, and want to enjoy their work each day.
