ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
Build Relationships & Provide Responsive Care
Interact positively with each child, treating them with dignity and respect. Greet children warmly and help them transition smoothly into the classroom. Build trusting relationships with families and maintain open, professional communication. Provide consistent supervision and guidance within state staff/child ratios, supporting toddlers as they learn routines, boundaries, and social skills.
Support Toddler Development & Daily Care
Recognize and respond to the unique developmental needs of toddlers, including emerging language, mobility, and independence. Engage directly with children through play, routines, and hands-on activities. Assist with diapering, toileting, feeding, and hygiene while maintaining licensing standards. Sit with children during meals and snacks to model healthy eating and social interaction. Communicate developmental observations and concerns to the School Director.
Plan & Implement Toddler Curriculum
Implement a developmentally appropriate, play-based curriculum aligned with Friendship Academy guidelines. Incorporate sensory play, language development, motor skills, and social-emotional learning into daily activities. Maintain a predictable routine that supports toddler security and independence. Partner with families to share curriculum goals and encourage involvement in their child’s learning.
Family Communication
Utilize required company tools and resources to communicate clearly, respectfully, and consistently with families both verbally and in writing. Provide daily updates on routines, meals, naps, and developmental milestones.
Health, Safety & Compliance
Follow all Friendship Academy Safety and Supervision policies with a strong emphasis on toddler-specific needs, including active supervision, safe sleep practices, and sanitation procedures. Maintain full compliance with licensing regulations and health standards. Accurately document and report all accidents, incidents, and concerns according to policy and state requirements.
MARGINAL/ADDITIONAL FUNCTIONS:
Assist with other duties as assigned to support classroom and center operations.
REPORTING STRUCTURE:
Supervision Received:
Reports directly to the School Director.
Supervision Exercised:
May support and mentor teacher assistants. May provide leadership within the toddler classroom and assist with daily operations.
JOB QUALIFICATIONS:
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
- Ability to follow Bottle-Feeding Procedures and Friendship Academy Safe Sleep Procedures
- Strong understanding of toddler development (ages 1–3)
- Ability to remain patient, nurturing, and responsive in a fast-paced environment
- Commitment to maintaining Friendship Academy’s mission, values, and vision
Education or Equivalency:
- Associate or bachelor’s degree in Early Childhood Education or related field preferred
Experience:
- Must meet state licensing requirements
- Preferred: 12 months of experience working with toddlers or in early childhood education
Specialized Training:
- 15 hours of annual professional development related to early childhood education
- Completion of all required trainings through the Oregon Department of Early Learning and Care
Certification/Licensure:
- Valid driver’s license and insurance if driving is required
