The Role
FreshDirect is seeking a VP, Prepared Foods to lead and expand their prepared foods business. This is a comprehensive leadership role that requires a blend of strategic vision and hands-on operational expertise. You will own the full P&L and be responsible for driving the growth and profitability of the department.
As the VP, you will be the driving force behind the prepared foods department, leading all aspects of Strategy, Merchandising, Pricing, and Production. You will work with cross-functional teams to develop and execute long-term business plans that increase market penetration and achieve financial targets. A key part of your role will be to forge and maintain strong relationships with vendors to capitalize on new market opportunities and ensure a consumer-first approach.
What You’ll Do
· You will lead, mentor, and develop a team of passionate category experts, culinary professionals, and operators. The ideal candidate has a proven track record of leading a team through strategic transformation, preferably in a manufacturing environment. You must have a strong command of both commercial and operational KPIs and be adept at fostering a culture of winning and customer-centricity within your team.
· Own the P&L for the prepared foods business, with a focus on maximizing sales, gross margin, and profitability.
· Set and own the strategy for prepared foods, including category management, merchandising, and pricing.
· Provide inspirational leadership and mentorship to the Category Management, Production, and R&D teams.
· Direct department priorities to drive sales growth, including making key recommendations on equipment procurement and buy-vs-make decisions.
· Develop and execute strategic roadmaps and long-term business plans to grow FreshDirect's prepared foods business.
· Collaborate effectively with cross-functional teams to execute business initiatives and optimize results.
· Cultivate and nurture strategic vendor relationships to identify synergies and capitalize on market opportunities.
What You’ll Bring
- Excellent oral and written communication skills including presentation skills
- Analytically minded with strong organizational skills
- Excellent attention to detail and exceptional follow-through
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office suite, particularly in Excel
- Significant project management experience, and an ability to manage projects with high visibility to completion
- Demonstrated success developing and building strong teams
- 10-15 years’ experience in Grocery Retail, eCommerce, or related industry
- Highly organized self-starter who is motivated to ask questions and coordinate complex projects
- Analytical thinker who can synthesize data and conflicting KPIs to make a decision and take a point of view without getting stuck in "analysis paralysis"
- Natural collaborator who thrives in a cross-functional role, is open to feedback, and can build strong partnerships while also constructively challenging other departments
- Genuinely loves food and is obsessed with quality, variety, and trends, with a deep appreciation for the company's culinary-focused DNA.
